Instagram can’t be installed due to Error code: -504 Recently, I faced the Google Play Store Error Code: -504 while installing Instagram app. It was so irritating because no matter how many times you try to install the app, the same message pops-up on your screen. The error message states “Instagram” can’t be installed. Try again, and if the problem continues, get help troubleshooting (Error code: -504). Many of other people are also going through the same pain. This error occurs while installing or updating the app. For some people it has also found that Instagram can’t be installed due to Error code: -504 occurs only with this app, other apps are easily being downloaded and installed.

Finally, I got the solution for this Error. In my case just by restarting the phone solved the issue but it may not be same for you. So, I will show you some more methods to Fix Error Code: -504 in Google Play Store. Before going to main solution try basic solution, it may solve you issue.

  1. Re-start your device: Sometime just by re-starting your device can solve the issue. So, why not try this once. To re-start your device:
    Unlock the screen of the devices.
    • Press and hold the “Power” button until a menu appears.
    • Select “Power off“.
    • Wait for the device to power off.
    • Wait 10 seconds, then press and hold the “Power” button to power the device back ON.
    • After that, try to download the app again. It may solve your error problem.
  2. Check your Internet Connection:Many of time it has found that the Error is caused due to slow internet  So make sure your internet connection is working properly and has good speed. You can also try switching your internet connection from WiFi to Mobile Data or vice-versa, Also try restarting the connection (you can Turn it OFF and then ON) which has worked for many users. If you are still getting the error try other internet connection to download the app.

Methods to fix Instagram can’t be installed due to Error code: -504

1st Method: Clear the Cache and Data

Most of the time clearing cache and data has solved the issue. So first clear the cache and data of Google Play Store, Google Play Service, Google Services Framework and Download Manger. Follow the steps as mentioned below.

  • Go to Setting >> Go to Application Setting (In some devices application setting is named as Apps).
  • Go to, All the apps > >Find the Google Play Store  >> Clear Cache and Data
  • Once you have cleared everything. Next you need to Force Stop the application.
  • Similarly, Find the Google Play Service >> Clear Cache and Data
  • Now, Find the Google Services Framework >> Clear Cache and Data
  • Also, Find Downloads Manager >> Clear Cache and data
  • Now, Restart your device and try to download and install the app

This method should fix the error. If you are still getting the error then follow the next method.

2nd Method: Remove and Add Google Account

  • Go to Setting >> Accounts >> Google
  • Remove all your Google accounts
  • Go back to Google play store and Sign–in your account information
  • Accept all the Google terms and setup Google settings then Run Google Play Store and download the app

If you are able to fix the error then the job is done otherwise head to below method.

Alternative Methods to Fix Error 504 during Installing App:

3rd Solution: Upgrade or Downgrade Google Play Store Updates

Uninstall UpdatesMany of the time outdated version of Google Play Store is found to be the reason behind the errors. So, check whether the update is available or not. If update is available then update the Play Store and see if it fixes the issue.

But, if there is no update available then your Play Store is up to date. So there are possibilities that the updated Google Play Store is causing the error. There are chances that the updated Version of Google play store may have Compatibility Issues. So in this case, you need to Uninstall Google Play Store updates. Just follow the step to Uninstall Google Play Store update.

  • Go to Setting>> Go to Application Setting (In some devices application setting is named as apps).
  • Go to, All the apps > >Find the Google Play Store >> Uninstall Updates
  • Now Restart your device and try to Open the Google Play Store.

This method has worked most of the time and it should also work for you. Just in case, this doesn’t work then try below methods.

 4th Solution: Allow Installation from Unknown Sources

Mostly we download the app from Google Play Store but sometimes we even download it from unknown sources as a result android doesn’t allow us to install the app and we face this error. One of the most common fix to this problem is to Enable “Allow installation of apps from unknown Sources”. Follow the steps to Enable the option.

  • Go to setting >> scroll down and find the security
  • Click on security >> scroll down and find the Unknown Sources (Unknown sources is found under the Device administration)
  • Enable the option Unknown source to allow installation from other sources.

Once you have finished the above steps you may now try to install the app which was showing you the error. If the error is fix then the job is done otherwise follow the next method.

5th Solution: Download the compatible apk file.

If your Android device has got latest OS then try downloading latest version of .apk file and if your device has got older OS or your OS has not been upgraded then try downloading older version of .apk file. It should work fine after that. Some of the website to download the apk file are apkmirror, apkhere, AndroidDrawer.
