The new Google Pixel 4 comes with a new feature called Styles and Wallpapers. This lets you change the accent colors, icons, and system font. However, this is only available on Google Pixel 4, so if you’re using the predecessors you do not get this feature. Fortunately, there is a way hidden deep inside your Pixel. Here’s how to use themes on Google Pixel.

The icons on your home screen can be changed from circular to rounded squares, or a teardrop. The accent colors can be changed to 7 different colors according to your preference. Even the system font can be changed. To get started, head over to step 1.

Step 1: Enable Developer Options

This is the first thing you need to do. Developer options is the place where you find the settings to change the theme. Since it is hidden by default, you will need to follow some steps to enable it first.

To enable it, head over to Settings > scroll down and tap About Phone > Scroll down again and tap on Build Number 7 times in rapid succession. You will be prompted to enter the lock screen PIN. If the PIN is correct, you will get a toast saying “Congratulations! You are now a developer.” This will add a new entry to the Settings menu called Developer Options

Step 2: Find the Theming Section

Go back to Settings and select System. There, find and tap on Advanced and then on Developer Options. After you scroll down to the very bottom, you will find the Theming section. This section contains the options that let you theme your phone’s interface.

Step 3: Time to Theme

The first option is to change the Accent color. This changes the color blue that you see in menus like Settings with the color of your choice. You can choose from 7 different colors – Cinnamon, Black, Green, Ocean, Space, Orchid, and Purple.

The Headline / Body Font option changes the font style used by the system menus. Unfortunately, there is only one option besides the default one – Noto Serif / Source Sans Pro. But even changing to this font can affect the overall lock of the UI.

The final option is Icon Shape. This will change the default circle icons to Square, Teardrop, Rounded Rectangle or Squircle.   Play around with the settings to get your preferred look. Once you’re done, your Pixel will feel completely different.
