We all know well that the latest version of Android, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow is loaded heavily loaded with super cool handy features. Google has added a handful of new features in this version, as well as refined and made it easy for the users to access some already available useful features. Google Now is one of them- it was already present on previous Android versions, but with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, you can access it easily with a single tap, and Google has named this feature as Google Now on Tap (you already know this if you attended or watched the Google I/O 2015 event). Here, we are having a brief guide on what Google Now and Google Now on Tap are, and how to enable and use them.

What are Google Now and Google Now on Tap?

We’ve all been in a situation where someone texts us to meet at a particular restaurant, and we want to know more information about the spot. Normally, you close your messenger app and search for the restaurant on Google by typing in the name, or copying and pasting it. That’s so old school. With Google Now on Tap, you can leave your messenger app open, and press and hold the home button for relevant information about the restaurant. Google will automatically provide you with links for navigating to the location, browsing menus, and placing a call to make reservations. It even lets you open relevant apps on your device, such as Yelp.

Android’s digital assistant Google Now has been given some extra superpowers with the release of Marshmallow – specifically the ability to see what’s on screen and understand the context of what you’re looking at. Google Now already provides you with relevant information on a daily basis, but Google Now on Tap takes it one step further by giving you instant information when you need it.

This is only the tip of the iceberg, though, given Google Now on Tap works with just about any app that’s installed on your device. The next time you’re watching a movie, try Google Now on Tap to get links for the trailer on YouTube and the IMDB page, as well as separate links for each actor and actress in it. Let’s say you see a post on Google+ or Facebook of someone mentioning the movie, The Walk. Google Now on Tap will provide the same information. It will also work with just about any place, movie, TV show, or song that’s displayed on your screen.

Google Now on Tap is easily my favorite feature in Android Marshmallow. It brings Google Now functionality to every part of your phone or tablet. There’s no need to switch apps or copy and paste phrases anymore – once it’s enabled, you can bring up Google Now on Tap from any app.

How to enable Google Now on Tap?

To activate Google Now on Tap in your Android device operating on the 6.0 Marshmallow version, follow these simple steps:

  • In your device, go to Google Now >> Settings >> Now cards.
  • Here, you can enable or disable Now on Tap. Do as you want.

After you have Google Now on Tap enabled in your device, you can get all its privilege by simply by selecting text and long-pressing the Home button.
