You bought one of the newest Galaxy S20 and you start to play with it. It doesn’t even matter if it’s the S20, S20 plus or the S20 Ultra, you start using it and notice the fingerprint scanner is not detecting your fingerprint even when you know you’ve set it correctly. You do not need to worry though; you can try a couple of fixes to make it work as intended. Here’s how to fix fingerprint scanner not working in Samsung Galaxy S20 series.
Fix fingerprint scanner not working in Samsung Galaxy S20 series
This problem could be caused by some software bugs that can be fixed easily with a few troubleshooting steps. Let’s begin.
Clean the screen
This is the first and the obvious thing you should do if your fingerprint is not being recognized by your Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 +, or S20 Ultra. These phones include an under-screen fingerprint sensor so any smudges on the screen could interfere with the sensor’s ability to read the fingerprints. Using a soft microfiber cloth, gently clean the screen, wiping out any dust or smudge on the screen.
Remove the screen protector
If you are using a 3rd party, low quality, or poorly installed screen protector, it may interfere with the under-screen fingerprint scanner. Remove the protector and try the scanner again and see if it works. If it doesn’t, keep reading further.
Delete and re-insert fingerprints
If you tried all the above steps and the problem still exists, then you need to delete and re-register your fingerprints. To do so, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Go to Settings.
Step 2: Scroll down and find Biometrics and security.
Step 3: Tap on Fingerprints.
Step 4: Type in the PIN, password, or pattern when asked.
Step 5: Delete any old fingerprints. Select the prints to remove. You can select all by touching and holding a fingerprint and select All from the upper-left corner.
Step 6: Tap on Remove located in the top right corner. Confirm your action.
Step 7: Register your fingerprints again by tapping on Add fingerprint.
Before registering your fingerprints, makes sure your fingertips are clean and not sweaty.
Increase Screen Sensitivity
Sometimes increasing the screen’s sensitivity can make this problem go, especially if you’re are using screen protectors. Follow the steps below;
Step 1: Go to Settings.
Step 2: Tap on Display.
Step 3: Scroll down and then select Touch Sensitivity – Increase touch sensitivity for use with screen protectors
Step 4: Tap on the toggle next to enable it.
