The Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL doesn’t come with a fingerprint scanner at all. The only way to unlock it is by using Face Unlock or one of the other traditional methods like setting a PIN or password. So, if the Face Unlock is not working as it should be, then you’re in a bit of trouble. There have been reports from Pixel 4 and 4 XL users that the Face Unlock has suddenly stopped working on their devices. So, what is causing the issue, and how do you fix it? Here’s how to fix Face Unlock not working on Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL.
Fix Face Unlock not working on Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL
You may be here trying to find a solution for the annoying problem in Pixel 4 and 4 XL’s Face Unlock. It could be working fine a minute ago but now it isn’t and you’re receiving a message saying you need to re-add your face or an error saying “Can’t Verify Face. Try Again”. This issue is restricting you to unlock your device only using the PIN or password. Unfortunately, there is no specific solution for this problem and the issue is probably on Google’s side, but different solutions have worked for different users. Perform the following solution in an attempt to fix the problem.
Solution 1: Re-setup Face Unlock
Step 1: Go to Settings and then tap on Security.
Step 2: Select Screen Lock and set the screen lock to None.
Step 3: Go back to the Screen Lock page and set it to anything other than None.
Step 4: Setup Face Unlock again and it should work.
Solution 2: Reboot
This may only be a temporary solution but something’s better than nothing, right?
Step 1: If the screen is off, turn it on by pressing the Power button.
Step 2: After the screen is turned on, press, and hold the Power button.
Step 3: After a couple of seconds, a list of options will appear on the screen.
Step 4: Tap on the Restart option.
Step 5: Check if the Face Unlock is working right.
Solution 3: Reset
If nothing works and you do now want to wait for the patch from Google, you can try to fix the problem by performing a factory reset. This will delete all your data and hopefully the issue too.
Step 1: Go to Settings.
Step 2: Scroll down and find Back up and reset. Tap on it.
Step 3: Select Factory data reset.
Step 4: Tap on Reset.
Step 5: Type in your PIN or Password.
Step 6: Tap on Delete all.
Unfortunately, there is a chance that even after resetting the Face Unlock several times and trying to add your face under different lighting conditions, restarting your device and even totally resetting your Google Pixel 4 or 4 XL might not fix the issue. If nothing working for you, you should contact Google or simply wait for them to roll out an update to patch the issue.
