Before we go into managing the frequency of Google News app notifications or removing the notification for irrelevant fields of interest, let’s see how you can stop the notification for the app altogether. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open App Drawer.
  2. Search for Google News app.
  3. Open the Google News app.
  4. On the home screen, tap on your Google profile photo located in the top right corner.
  5. Tap on News Settings.
  6. Select Notifications located under Alerts.
  7. On the Notification screen, tap on the toggle located alongside Get Notifications.

To make sure you only get Breaking News, follow the following steps:

  1. Open App Drawer.
  2. Look for the Google News app and tap on it.
  3. Inside the app tap on your Google profile photo located in the upper right corner of the screen.
  4. Tap on News Settings.
  5. Under Alerts, tap on Notifications.
  6. Inside this screen, disable all the other entries except Get Notifications and Breaking News.

Here, you can also configure what other fields you want to get news notifications from along with Breaking news. Other news includes headlines, featured content, daily briefing, top story, and news from topics you have followed, and more.

To choose your area of interest, follow the steps below:

  1. Open App Drawer.
  2. Locate Google News and tap on it.
  3. On the home screen, tap on the Following icon located on the bottom.
  4. On this screen, you will find Topics. Tap on View all and manage to add the topics you’re interested in.
  5. Go back and you can find Sources. Here you can choose what news source you want to follow.
