Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge has an interesting feature called the Always On Display or AOD in short. This feature, when enabled, will keep the clock, date, battery level and other information visible even if the screen is turned off. This feature is made to ensure it doesn’t use too much battery using hardware and software optimizations. Thanks to THSoftware, we can now get this feature on any android device. Here’s how to get Always On Display on Android device.
How to get Always On Display on Android device
Before we start, we first need to know the types of display android phones use. This app simply displays white text on black background. That means if your device has AMOLED screen, only the white pixels will be used, minimizing the battery consumption. However, if you have a LCD screen, the entire backlight needs to be lit to display the text. This consumes comparatively more battery.
Get Always On Display: Install Glance Plus
This is the app that will give your device that Always On feature that Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge has, without killing your battery. Glance Plus is available for free on the Google Play Store.
Get Always On Display: Enable Glance Plus
When the app finishes installing on your device, you will need to give it permission to modify system settings. Enable the toggle on the screen and launch the app again. Now enable the toggle at the top corner on the Glance Plus’ main menu. This will turn on the Always on Display feature.
Get Always On Display: Add Contents
Now that the app is up and running, you can add contents that you want to see on your screen. You can also choose between analog and digital clocks, change the calendar style and add background images. You can allow the app to display notifications.
Get Always On Display: Power Saving
When you are finished adding and customizing contents of your Always On Display, you now need to optimize the battery consumption. You can find battery saving options under the features section. By default, Glance Plus will come up when your display is turned off and will fade away after 2 minutes but you can make it last longer. Select the Always on option and select one of the available option. You can also make Glance to not display during inactive hours. Play around with the options till you find the settings that you find suitable.
Get Always On Display: Appearance
You can adjust the font size and brightness under the Other settings. Note that raising the brightness will affect your battery life. I’d recommend to leave the Background brightness untouched and tweak the Content brightness to suit your needs.
Get Always On Display: Enjoy
Now that everything is set up, all you have to do is turn off your display and check out your Always On Display. Tap anywhere on the screen and you will find your stock lock screen. Cool, right?
