Just like in the previous versions of Android, Android Marshmallow also has some hidden features. These features are hidden because altering them can cause your device to malfunction. So it is advised that you learn what each of the features does to your device before tampering with them blindly. Note that some vendors may choose to remove them. However, System UI tuner in Marshmallow has some interesting features that will not make your device malfunction. These features include ability to customize quick settings menu, customize status bar, etc. Here’s how to enable System UI tuner in Android Marshmallow.

How to enable System UI Tuner in Android Marshmallow

Step 1: Access Quick Settings. You can achieve this via 2 methods. You can either swipe down from the top of the screen using two fingers or swipe it down twice using one finger.

Step 2: After you have accessed the quick settings panel, tap and hold the gear icon. The gear icon will rotate, you can release your finger now. You will be taken to the Settings screen where you will see a toast saying “Congrats! System UI Tuner has been added to Settings.” However. Step 3: In the Settings screen, scroll down till you see System UI Tuner. It is below About Phone / Tablet. Also, you will see a small wrench icon nest to the gear icon on the quick settings panel. This mean you have successfully enabled System UI Tuner. Try Step 1 and Step 2 again if you cannot find it.

Step 4: Tap on System UI Tuner to access it. Inside, you will find 4 options – Quick Settings, Status car, Show embedded battery percentage and Demo mode. Detail description of each option can be found below.

Quick Settings

Using this, you can delete any item from the Quick Settings page. Tap and hold and drag any item to the trash can to delete it. You can also rearrange the location of each item. Tap and hold and move it to the desired location. Tap on the ‘+’ icon to add extra items.

Status Bar

Demo Mode

Tapping on Demo Mode will hide all the notifications from the status bar and all the incoming notifications will temporarily appear as heads up notifications. On the status bar, the battery will appear to be 100%, the clock will show 6:00 and Wi Fi and cellular signal will have full bars. This is especially helpful for developers to take screenshots.

If you mess up the quick settings, you can easily reset it from Settings > System UI Tuner > Quick Settings > tap on 3 dots > tap on Reset. If you want to remove System UI Tuner from Settings, go to Settings > System UI Tuner > tap on 3 dots > tap on Remove from settings.
