There have been complaining from Google Pixel users regarding their USB C earphones. They’re saying that it is not working with their Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. As a matter of fact, this problem has been reported overall Pixel phones. The phone doesn’t recognize the wired headphones and continues to play music from the speakers. Although this problem is rare, it is still an annoying one if you just bought the Pixel and the headphones that are working on every other device are not working on it. The phone simply doesn’t recognize it. More extreme cases include no headphones options on Google Assistant, no headphones volume control like it is not even connected to the phone. Before you give it to Google for repair, try the following potential solutions.
Clean Port
The most probable cause for this problem is a blockage in the USB C port. There might be some dust or debris inside the USB C port that may be interfering with the signal. If you’re seeing the charging connected device notification, then there is a high chance that something is stuck inside the port. You should not be seeing that notification when connecting the audio dongle to the phone.
Try cleaning the USB C port carefully with a small pin or toothpick. You can even use compressed air as long as the intensity is not too high. Better if you use a magnifying glass to get a clear view of the insides of the port. Do not be too harsh with the cleaning as we do not want any permanent damage to the port. After it is carefully and thoroughly cleaned, restart the phone.
Incompatible Adapter
Another potential reason behind this issue could be an incompatible USB C to 3.5mm adapter. You need an adapter (or dongle) that can convert the digital signal to analogue – a DAV. Pixel 4 doesn’t come with an adapter so you have no option but to buy it separately. You might have bought an incompatible one. It is recommended to buy the official adapter.
Also, make sure the headphones aren’t the issue. Check is it working by using it on other devices.
