Previously, whenever you wanted to watch a video on Whatsapp, you would leave the app and had to re-open it after you have finished watching it. Fortunately, this is no longer the case due to the introduction of the feature called Picture in Picture mode in Android. Now, you do not have to leave Whatsapp to watch a video and re-open it when you’ve finished it. Here’s how to use Picture in Picture mode in Whatsapp.
Use Picture in Picture mode in Whatsapp
Using Picture in Picture mode in Whatsapp is as easy as it can get. You do not need to configure any settings (by default, the feature should be activated). This feature will automatically activate when receiving a video link. All you have to do is tap on Preview. The video will be played on the top of the screen and you won’t be able to rewind or forward it. You can either watch the whole video or tap on the square like button on the top right corner of the video to watch it on full screen. You will be able to see controls when you are in full-screen mode. Tap on the icon on the top right corner of the video while in full-screen mode to get back to Picture in Picture mode. Note that you have to tap on the preview to make Picture in Picture mode work. If you directly tap on the video link, you will be taken to the site.
So what will you do if the feature fails to load or you are having difficulties with the feature? Don’t worry, there is a simple way you can solve this. You can simply clear the app cache from Settings > Apps > Whatsapp > Storage > tap on Clear Cache. Note that the path to the Clear Cache button may differ from smartphones to smartphones. Doing this should make the feature work properly again.
If Picture in Picture mode is still not working or if you don’t see the preview option, it is likely that the version of Whatsapp you are using is outdated. You will need to update the app to the latest version to make the feature work.
