A couple of updates ago, Chrome for Android added a content suggestion feature. At that time, it was an optional feature; those who liked it could enable it and those who did not want it could easily disable it. But, after a recent update, they removed made it permanent for every user and each time you open a new tab, you will be presented with a list of sites you visit frequently. You can still turn it off by turning off two Chrome flags. Here’s how to disable suggestions on new tabs in Chrome for Android.

How to disable suggestions on New Tabs in Chrome for Android

Step 1: Open Chrome for Android and on a new tab type the following in the URL bar:
chrome://flags/#enable-ntp-popular-sites
suggestive-content-chrome disable suggestions on New Tabs in Chrome

Step 2: You will be taken to a settings page and right on to the relevant flag. Tap on the drop down menu and then select Disable from the list of options.

Step 3: The job’s not done yet. You have to disable another flag to disable suggestive content properly. To disable the second flag, open a new and type in the following on the URL bar:
chrome://flags/#enable-ntp-snippets
Step 4: Tap on the drop down to open the menu. Select Disable.

Step 5: You will have to re-launch chrome each time you disable a flag and you will be provided with the option to do so each time.

That is it. You will no longer be bothered with unnecessary suggestions each time you open a new tab. Suggestive content is not just unnecessary but it will also degrade the load time of tabs since it has to load the contents too. Google should bring back the option to disable it as disabling it from the Flags page is inconvenient and not everyone knows how to.
