Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped

While using your Android device, unfortunate errors are bound to occur. Such errors are accompanied by messages like “Unfortunately, app has stopped“,  “Unfortunately, System UI has stopped”, etc. Sometimes, there may occur issues with Google Apps on your device. This leads to the device showing “Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.” 

Gapps refers to Google Apps. In presence of issues with the Google Apps, such error may occur. While on the other hand, the error, “Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped” occurs when you disable the Download Manager. Whatever the issue might be, here are few ways in which you can resolve the unfortunate error.

#1. Reboot your device

One of the common ways to resolve most of the problems in gadgets is to reboot it. This might sound like a useless thing to do but sometimes, just restarting your device may do the trick. Simply:

• Unlock the screen of your phone
• Press and hold the “Power” button until a menu appears.
• Select “Power off”.
• Wait for the device to power off.
• Wait 10 seconds, then press and hold the “Power” button to power the device back ON

#2. Reset App Preferences

If restarting, your device doesn’t work for you, you might want to reset app preferences for solving, “Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped”issue. For this, go to Settings >> Apps >> All and reset app preferences. This resets all your apps, but doesn’t harm your app data.

#3. Clear App Cache

Sometimes, clearing the cached data solves the  error. This also reduces the app crashes. In order to clean your cache memory, Settings → Apps/Application manager → “Select the App”  → “Manage space/Storage” → “Clear all data/Clear Cache”. 

You might also want to clear App cache from Google Play Services, Google Framework and Google Play Store.

Also, uninstall updates for the Google Play Store. For this, go into the Settings menu → Apps/Application manager → Google Play Store → Uninstall updates.

#4. Disable automatic App updates

Often, app updates can lead to the issue. Thus, you should turn off automatic app updates. However, manual app updates are a must. In order to disable automatic updates go to:

• Open Google Play Store 
• Settings → Auto App updates 
• Select “Do not auto-update apps”

#5. Restart Download Manager

As we know, sometimes Download Manager causes the  ‘com.google.process.gapps has stopped’ error.So, simply eliminate it by restarting the download manager. For this:

• Go to Settings → Apps
• Find Download Manager 
• Select App Info
• Disable it, and enable it again
• Check if error still prevails

#6. Factory Reset Your Device

In case none of the methods mentioned above works, do a factory reset. This will restore your device to the default settings. However, back up all your data before performing the method. There is a great chance that Factory Resetting your device might solve the issue.
