The world’s largest online retailer, amazon.com yesterday officially announced its new phone: the Amazon Fire Phone with lots of high-end specs and other eye-catching (the real one, this time) features.
Amazon has been producing a tablet series- the Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet Series and with the release of the Fire Phone, the company has entered the smartphone market.
The Fire Phone is a medium to high end specs smartphone, with some unique features which are not available in other devices. The phone is a 3-D enabled smartphone, running in Amazon Fire v3.5 OS (which is actually a customised version of the Android OS), which is at present being used in the Kindle Fire tablet series of the company. The phone boasts some heavy features like 3D Dynamic Perspective UI (based on 4 front cameras) and System wide tilt, auto-scroll, swivel, and peek functions. There’s a quick-access shutter button on the side, and unlimited cloud storage for your photos.
Specs
The Amazon Fire Phone has a 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.7 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 312 ppi pixel density, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3: both on the front and the back! Measuring 139.2 x 66.5 x 8.9 mm in dimensions, it is just 160 grams. Having the internal memory options of 16 and 32 GB (no microSD card slot) with a 2 GB RAM, it will be processed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2 GHz Quad-core Krait 400 processor. The Graphics will be controlled by a Adreno 330 GPU, while these all will be handled by a Non-removable Li-Ion 2400 mAh battery giving talktime of upto 22 hours. There is a 13 MP primary camera in the back clicking the images of 4128 x 3096 pixels with optical image stabilization, autofocus and LED flash, and recording the videos of upto 1080p @ 30 fps. For selfies and video chats, there is a 2.1 MP front camera too. For the connectivity options there will be a LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.o, microUSB v2.0 and NFC.
Price
The phone is priced US$650 off-contract, which is almost equal to the price of the Samsung Galaxy S5 (it costs US$750 off-contract). The phone will be available from 25th June in AT&T careers in an contract price of US$199, which is not considered to be that much competitive for the price point (it costs a lot more than the Nexus 5, which has almost similar specs). The given price is for the 32 GB version, while the 64 GB version will cost US$100 more than the former.
Overview
Though having some really mind-blowing features, the smartphone is expected to be a flop by the critics, as it is expensive and most of the users do not want to use the heavily customized android, there are already Nokia X series smartphones in the market for that. The phone will have to compete with the established top brands (its just because you can buy any smartphone you want at that price). There are several high-end smartphones which are available at far less price (OnePlus One is one among them). Still, we can’t say anything now. Time will show what happens, and we wish all the best to amazon for its Amazon Fire Phone to compete in the smartphone market.
