From the First version of the Android- The Android 1 Alpha to the latest version- 4.4 KitKat, Android has passed a lot of versions and has made a huge story. Since the commercial release of the 1.5 Cupkake in 27 April 2009 (the first two versions were not available for users), Android has now about 75 percent of market share in the smartphones and tablets category worldwide, and has released almost one major update version every year, along with several minor updates. Recently the 4.4.3 sub-version of the 4.4 KitKat was launched, which was a minor update with some bug fixes and small additional features. Coming to this point of time that the time is coming near for Android to launch another major update, what will the next android version after KitKat be named?
4.4 KitKat was released in 22 November 2013, after 4.1-4.3 Jellybean, and there were several rumors (most of them were definitely sure, by the way) in the market that it will be named something else- perhaps 5.0 and would be named the Key Lime Pie, but most of the rumors failed, and Google named it 4.4 KitKat afterall. Now, every one of us, which may or may not be the android users, have the query of the next android version, and its name in our mind. There are rumors that the next android version after KitKat will be the Android 4.5 ( maybe Google is just going to tease us with Android 4.5, Android 4.6, Android 4.7, and so on) and will be named Lollipop (it’s a funny name, isn’t it?). But there are rumors for the Android 5.0 version too, claiming for the 4.X name to be skipped. The name will most probably (if not surely) start with L though, following the naming system of android from the first version to the latest. The name can be anything though, Lime Pie/Laffy Taffy/ Lion/Licorice or whatever, and the Lollipop is the most possible name among them.
Nexus 5 users are among the first with Android 4.4 KitKat, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t thinking about what’s next, not with 2014 just around the corner. As the Nexus 5 gets older, so will the anticipation for Google’s next piece of software and here, we take a look at what Nexus 5 users should expect from the future, after Android 4.4 KitKat. We can expect Google to launch another Nexus smartphone- Nexus 6 (or maybe it will skip it, and launch the update solely). However, there is still some time left for the major version update of android, since most devices are still waiting for the 4.4 KitKat update. Let’s hope to get some news about the next Android version after KitKat from Google this July, or upto September.
Android 4.4 KitKat wasn’t an overly impressive update (users claiming it to be an evolution, rather than a revolution in the history of Android Version), but it did bring some minor UI changes that brought a fresh look to the system alongside with a prominent role for Google Now. What the next path Google will choose for itself, only time will tell. A jump to Android 5.50 would fit the format of the I/O and coincide alongside with the latest version of iOS 8.0: The Android 4.X era is now quite old. On the other hand, there have been surprisingly few leaks that provide tangible evidence towards an upgrade to a new version. Whatever the answer may be behind the Android update question, one thing we know for sure is that time will always tell with the Google I/O just around the corner. There is not much hurry for us for the major update, but when it comes to the next Android update, what do you think is going to happen? What do you think the next android version after KitKat will be or named? What do you think about the new features next will it possess? Leave your comment here.
