Solution 1: Clear App Cache
There is a possibility that an app installed in your device is causing this error. So if you notice this you can clear cache or clear data of that particular app to stop this error. Let say Facebook is causing this error to pop-up. So to solve this, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Find and open Settings app from the app drawer or tap on the gear icon on your notification drawer.
- Find and select Apps from the Settings.
- Go to All tab.
- Find and tap on Facebook.
- Tap on Clear cache / Clear data and you’re good to go.
Note: Clear data only if clearing cache didn’t help.
Solution 2: Reboot your device
One of the common ways to resolve most of the problems in gadgets is to reboot it. This might sound like a useless thing to do but sometimes, just restarting your device may do the trick. Simply:
- Unlock the screen of your phone
- Press and hold the “Power” button until a menu appears.
- Select “Power off”.
- Wait for the device to power off.
- Wait 10 seconds, then press and hold the “Power” button to power the device back ON
Solution 3: Disabling and enabling Download Manager
If the above solution didn’t work for you, you can try disabling Download Manager and enabling it again. This may fix the com.google.process.gapps error. Here’s how to do it:
- Find and open Settings app from the app drawer or tap on the gear icon on your notification drawer.
- Find and select Apps from the Settings.
- Go to All tab.
- Find and tap on Download Manager.
- Tap on Clear data.
- Tap on Disable.
- Then Enable it again.
Solution 4: Reset App Preferences
If previous solutions didn’t work for you, you can try this one. You can reset app preferences to fix this error. This will reset the settings of all the apps to their factory defaults. To go so, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Find and open Settings app from the app drawer or tap on the gear icon on your notification drawer.
- Find and select Apps from the Settings.
- Go to All tab.
- Press your options key.
- Tap on Reset app preferences
Solution 5: Disable automatic App updates
Often, app updates can lead to the issue. Thus, you should turn off automatic app updates. However, manual app updates are a must. In order to disable automatic updates go to:
- Open Google Play Store
- Settings → Auto App updates
- Select “Do not auto-update apps”
Solution 6: Factory Reset Your Device
In case none of the methods mentioned above works, do a factory reset. This will restore your device to the default settings. However, back up all your data before performing the method. There is a great chance that Factory Resetting your device might solve the issue.
So this is it. Hope this solution fixes your problem “com.google.process.gapps has stopped” which one worked for you? Leave us a comment and let us know. If none of the above-mentioned solutions worked for you, leave us a comment stating the steps you performed.
THANKS!! It was driving me nuts. Download manager was the problem, the “unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped” message is gone.
Hi,
The Download Manager fix didn’t work for me and nither the 3rd solution of the app prefrences.
Any Idea what can cause it ?
Hi I had the same problem on my s5 try this …settings/accounts then unsynk accounts ..hope that works for ya
Great, sync did work for me. Thanks.
Didn’t work on my phone. Still popping up. Tried all them ideas. None worked. Any other ideas
You can’t fix it. The only way is if the NSA or other rogue domestic abusive terrorist entities were to stop cyberstalking and hacking into your conversations. Sorry but this is happening to me and many other innocent-until-proven-guilty Americans on a daily basis.
Tried all 3 none of them worked:(
for me google services was the problem
How did you fix it? it only stops popping up when i disable google play services, but i need google play services enabled for my music and other applications to work. please get back to me asap
none of those solutions fixed this issue on my Galaxy S5
it was google play service for me.
Hi Sergio,
What did you do to cure the problem with Google Services, how did you know that was the problem and what action did you take, there’s no options but really to force stop these processes that I can see, which would be dangerous.
same thing h appened to me twice on my Android netbook.first time, the technician had my device RESET to its factory settings. So easy to reset,he made me pay much. Second time when my charger was destroyed . My device stopped for 2 days surfing activities, and when i bought a new charger, it popped up,so with “The Google Play Services” has stopped”,”The Document” has stopped and “Settings” has stopped. It can’t open wifi on,so I RESET it again for the second time, deleting all my downloaded apps but their data were still in my files. If you don’t like this resetting your device, why not asking HELP from Google itself, like signing in to your Google account, renew & accept their Terms of Service & Policy. If you disable some apps, try enabling it back but be sure ALL your apps & app data were SET to ” automatically restore when reinstalling apps& app data”at the Backup & Restore section of your PERSONAL menu.I also ask some official ways here from Google to fix this issue.
Actually yes, Google Services was the issue for me too, I disabled it, which seemed to uninstall it, then got notifications that other apps needed it, clicked on them, went back in, enabled it, it re-installed, and so far so good.
Before that, I also updated to the latest version of Android on my Galaxy S5.
That happened to me to… Updated the latest software then the fault happened – Pauls fix worked first time
The problem is the bloody message won’t go away long enough for me to try any of these!!! Aargh
second one worked for my S5, thanks
This one worked for me too! Gracias
Tablet is a Chimp make, tried everything but still getting stupid message, any other ideas please? Ive cleared cache, ive deleted basically everything but its still coming up
None of these were the issue. I did however try them before figuring it out for myself. The issue is with google play services itself. Uninstall the updates and it will fix itself. If you look in the play store you will see that many people are having this same issue. Hopefully google fixes this mess quickly.
Thanks Robert the play store is the play store. I uninstall updates on Google play services and it worked.
Thanks Robert the play store is the problem. I uninstall updates on Google play services and it worked.
Thanks, that seems to have solved original error message issue. Then I was getting another error message: “maps will not work without google services update” or something, even though I was not using maps, it kept popping up, every few minutes.
I have updated again, just to see what happens next.
All these comments can be very helpful when trying to solve IT problems.
This one worked for me….https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_PwF1FmRd0
Resetting the apps worked for me…. THANKS!
HTC One mini – Option 3 sorted it out yay! THANK YOU 🙂
Error message started yesterday on my S5. Tried all the various fixes I found on many blogs, to no avail, but seems one has to find the fix right for your model of phone. The Google Play Services appears to be the key here. Uninstalled, uninstalled updates and had to “uncheck” the administrator line, temporarily. Rebooted, and reinstalled and it seems ok. At least the constant pop-up of the error message has disappeared for the last half hour. Thanks to all for the correct fix!
I can’t uninstall updates the button Is disabled all buttons are disabled except the manage space and when I click it it crash
Hi, im using Micromax a106 lollipop android version. I used the above solutions but it doesn’t waorks on my mobile. Now also it’s showing the same problem continously when im pressing ok.

I have this problem during power-up on my Moto G XT1039. Since Android doesn’t load, I can’t try any of the suggested fixes. I tried both the factory reset and recovery processes, but the error message still occurs. When I click on OK from the error, I get a quick flash of another error saying that the Launcher can’t load, and then the gapps error reappears. I think my phone is basically dead, but I’d welcome any suggestions!
I have a Verizon tablet and I’ve recently updating Google photos. After I updated it, “Unfortunately, com.google.process.gapps” has been popping up. So, I tried deleting the app, but as soon as I delete it, launcher stops responding, along with other apps. I’ve tried factory resetting it, but it doesn’t work. I’ve also tried going to my settings, but as soon as i click the settings app, it also stops.
