When it comes to mapping services, we all usually think of Google Maps. Since Google Maps supports Street view, turn-by-turn navigation, public transit info and many other features, we tend to use the app while travelling for navigation purposes. But one time or other, we all might have come across with Unfortunately, Maps Has Stopped problem.
Method 1: Restart your device
Before jumping into other ways, try re-starting your device first. Re-starting your device drains some amount of persistent memory. To restart your device, simply:
- Hold the “Power” button until a menu appears
- Select “Power off “.
- Wait 10 seconds after the device is off
- Press and hold the “Power” button to power the device back ON.
You can also try battery pull method. For this: Turn off the device >> Pull the battery out >> Leave battery out for 10 seconds >> Put it back in >> Restart your device. Check to see if the application is working. If not, try some of the other methods.
Method 2: Clear Cache Memory
Sometimes, clearing the cached data solves the Maps has stopped error. This also reduces the app crashes. In order to clean your cache memory, Settings >> Applications >> Google Maps. Then tap on Clear Cache to clean your cached data.
Method 3: Wipe Cache Partition from Recovery Mode
You can also try to clear the system cache. The App Cache (mentioned in Method 2) is for particular apps while the System Cache is for the overall Android System itself. Wiping the Cache Partition clears the system cache. This method is also useful for some other glitches in your device. Follow these simple steps to clear the cache partition are:
- Turn off your device
- Press Volume Up and Power Button together to enter Recovery Mode
- Use Volume Down/Up buttons to navigate
- Select Wipe Cache Partition
- Press Power button.
You can see the progress at the bottom of the screen. A message will appear after the completion
- Select Reboot system now
