Many Android and iOS users who have just updated Google Maps app are finding that it is missing one key feature that was in the older versions. This is feature is offline caching which allows you to select a portion of the screen and save it for offline viewing. The newest version is Google maps 7.0 for android and Google Maps 2.0 for iphone or ipad. Actually, you can still save or cache your maps in the new Google Maps but there is a different way to do this.Here is how you can save maps for offline viewing in the new Google Maps App:
- Type the name of the place on the search bar of Google Maps>
- Now that your map is loaded, type “Ok map” in the search bar
- You should get the message “The on-screen map area has been cached
Note: Offline searching is still not available in the new Google Maps App. So, you will have to scroll to the area yourself when you are offline.
