It has been a couple of months since the release of two the newest member of the OnePlus family – the OnePlus 8 and its big brother OnePlus 8 Pro. Both these phones are power-packed with the latest and the greatest specs which are expected from OnePlus. These two phones essentially a big step up from their predecessors and goes toe to toe with its competitions with their competitive pricing and awesome specs. With high-end specs, you want a lag-free experience when using the device, but there have been reports of lag on the new OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, and it gets worse when using the keyboard to type anything. Well, you’re not the only one and your device isn’t faulty. A couple of tweaks and your device will be as good as new and totally lag-free. Here’s how to fix OnePlus 8 lag.

Fix OnePlus 8 Lag

This lag isn’t caused by overheating, faulty hardware, or defective piece. This lag is actually caused by prolonged usage of the device on the highest refresh rate and resolution. If you’ve set your resolution to Quad HD and refresh rate to 120Hz, you will experience this lag. And to be honest, using that screen configuration on anything other than gaming or maybe watching videos is nothing but a total waste of battery for some users. But I feel you want to get the most out of your phone. maybe we will get an update sometime later to fix this problem.

Fix OnePlus 8 Lag

So, let’s right into it. There are a couple of solutions you can try to fix the problem. And if none of these works, then unfortunately your device is actually defective.

  1. The first thing you should try is to reduce the screen resolution and the refresh rate. This is not the ideal solution and hopefully, OnePlus will roll out an update to fix this. But till then all we can do is reduce the screen resolution to Full HD. It’s okay to set the refresh rate to 120 Hz. To change the screen resolution on OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, go to Settings> Display > Advanced > Resolution. You will have to restart your device for this to take effect.
  2. Another unorthodox solution would be disabling the 3-finger screenshot gesture. This seems to be fixing the screen lag for some users. You might as well give it a try. To disable 3-finger gesture, go to Settings > Buttons & Gestures > Quick Gesture > disable Three-finger Screenshot.
  3. You can reduce the overall animation speed to make your screen feel lag-free. To do so, enable Developer Options first from Settings > About Phone > Tap on Build Number multiple times until you see a notification saying “You are now a developer”. Now go to Settings > System > Developer Options > scroll down to “Drawing” section > reduce all animation speed to 0.5x. This is also not an ideal solution and all you can do is wait for an update.
  4. If nothing works, do a factory reset before going to a service center. Make sure you backup everything first.
