Samsung has announced its first flagship of the year 2015: Samsung Galaxy S6 in the ongoing Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain. There are obviously some upgrades in the specifications as previously detected, but Samsung this time tries to bring the new flagship with a better build quality, focusing on it more than other basic parts, such as size, storage and software features.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 does not bring much changes to the Galaxy S5. It features a 5.1 inches QHD (1440 x 2560 pixels) Super AMOLED capacitive display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection, which has a pixel density of 441 ppi. The handset is sleek, having dimensions of 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm and it weighs just 138 grams. The phone will have 32/64/128 GB of internal memory with 3 GB of RAM and with no option of expandable storage. For the processing power, there will be Exynos 7420 chipset, compiled with Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 CPU, and Mali-T760 GPU for gaming and graphics. For the photography and videography options, this smartphone will have the same 16 MP primary camera with autofocus and LED Flash which can capture videos upto 2160p @ 30 fps, and a 5 MP secondary camera for video calls and selfies. The juice will be provided by a Non-removable Li-ion 2550 mAh battery. For the connectivity options, there will be LTE support, microUSB v2.0, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi. The phone will run on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system out of box with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI over it, with some of the system’s upcoming major version updates. The phone will be available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum and Blue Topaz color options.
The rumor finally turns out to be right, Samsung has ditched the Snapdragon 810 for the Galaxy S6 (causes reported were the overheating issues, but we never know what in actual is), and only the Exynos version will be available: implying unbiassedly sold versions worldwide, unlike its predecessors. The phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the back too, and all new glass and metal design are aesthetic to create the premium feel, but at the cost of external storage and removable battery options. This time around Samsung has partnered with Microsoft, instead of Dropbox, and will be offering 115GB OneDrive storage for 2 years to each Galaxy S6 user. The handset will have some premium features, like paypal certified Fingerprint sensor, and Samsung Pay (similar to the Apple Pay). Samsung Pay relies on NFC and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) for mobile payments. It has already been certified by Visa, MasterCard, and Samsung is employing key partners worldwide to participate in the service, including American Express, Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase, and U.S. Bank.
The price of the Samsung Galaxy S6 is not yet revealed, and it is all set to launch in the major smartphone markets later this month.
