YouTube, the largest video platform in the world needs no introduction. Whether it be for music videos or online tutorials, YouTube, today has become a necessity for most of us. But what if YouTube app suddenly stopped working?  Youtube not working is probably a nightmare for most of us. Generally, YouTube is up and running, but sometimes, the videos just won’t play. This can be quite a hassle for those who use YouTube on a regular basis. Here are some common solutions that you can perform when you face YouTube not working issue.

1. Reboot your Device

Restarting your device to resolve a problem may sound a bit silly. But believe me or not, just rebooting the device might solve your problem. Restarting gives you the clean slate i.e. a smartphone free of all programs and background processes. Go ahead and give your device a fresh start. To restart, simply:

  • Unlock the screen of your phone
  • Press and hold the Power button until a menu appears.
  • Select Power off.
  • Wait for the device to power off.
  • Wait 10 seconds, then press and hold the “Power” button to power the device back ON

2. Clear App Cache

If the above solutions do not work, you can always try clearing your app cache. Clearing cache data times and again also reduces app crashes. In order to clean your cache memory, Settings → Apps/Application manager →YouTube  → “Manage space/Storage” → “Clear all data/Clear Cache”

3. Check your Internet Connection

Sometimes, we are so focused on a problem that we fail to think that the problem may be due to external factors. Likewise, YouTube not working problem may be due to simple connection issues. Here, the first thing to do is to see if you are connected to the internet or not. Sometimes, even if you’re connected, some problems may occur granting you no internet access at all. In such cases:

  • Open your browser
  • Perform a basic internet search

Note: While performing the internet search, make sure you do not visit YouTube site as the problem may be with YouTube, not Wi-Fi.

4. Update YouTube App

YouTube not working error may be because you have not updated the application in your device. Check if the update is available. For this,

  • Go to Google Play Store
  • y Apps & games” from menu options
  • Go to “Updates” list and check if YouTube is on the list

If the YouTube application needs the update, tap on “Update” button and wait for few minutes. After the update is done, launch the YouTube app to check if the problem still prevails.

5. Check Date and Time settings

Sometimes, Google’s servers may have trouble syncing with the date/time settings of your device if they’re incorrect. This may lead to YouTube not working issue. To fix this, simply:

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap on “Date & Time”
  • Turn on “Automatic date & Time” and “Automatic time zone”

6. Update your Operating System

Although YouTube not working problem may not be because of the outdated Android OS version, there’s a small possibility that it could be the one. To update your device,

  • Go To Settings
  • Navigate to “System Updates”
  • Download and install updates if the update is available

Note that the ‘System Updates’ may be in the ‘About Phone’ option in some devices.

  1. Oh great! this is very helpful, i can now watch videos on youtube. However, there are instances that i’m experiencing a bad internet connection,so i decided to download some videos from youtube using the Acethinker Video Keeper, with that i can download multiple videos without affecting its original quality.

  2. I can’t get the YouTube app to open on a Qlink phone. (Android system)
    It starts to show the app, then quickly switches to the website. Comes up as m.youtube.com
    Help!
