First and foremost, here’s what you need to do. You have to enable developers option in your Android device. Android Developer Options allow you to debug apps over USB, capture bug reports, show CPU usage on screen, etc. In order to enable developer options:
- Go to Settings >> Advanced Settings (in some devices)
- Navigate to About Phone
- Find Build Number
- Tap on Build Number several times (7 times), until see an alert congratulating you for being a developer
Now all you need to do to solve volume issues with AirPods on Android platform is to disable absolute volume.
Note: Disabling absolute volume works even if you are having problem with Bluetooth speakers or audio devices other than AirPods
In order to, disable absolute volume:
- Go to Settings >> Developer Options
Depending on the smartphone you’re using, Developer options may be located in Advanced Settings or System settings. - Locate Disable Absolute Volume and toggle on

Hey, can’t seem to find the absolute volume toggle on the Huawei p20 pro, do you guys know where it is ?
With the new AirPods 2 I’m having an issue that the buds always turn on at HIGH volume. As soon as I hit the volume control on my Android the volume decreases but the fix above did not resolve the “these are going to cause hearing loss” issue I’m struggling with now. Any suggestions? I’m using the Pixel XL 3.
Same here. Just bought AirPods 2 and experienced same thing. I’m using Samsung Galaxy S8.
Contacted Apple support and visited the store but could not solve the problem, so got mine refunded…
Want to get one if there is a solution to it.

Yeah, I just got my Airpods 2 in yesterday and I’m having the same issue.
Same here, it automatically goes to maximum volume.
The guide is fix the problem. Thank you so much
This didn’t fix the issue for me. It’s still really quiet and I don’t know why. Please help 🙁
I have a Moto Z2 Force.
I’m having one plus 6 and having same problem with AirPods 2, please help 🙁
So, initially it worked but has reverted back to low sound (I use them on an android and an iphone(work)). I tried enabling and then disabling absolute volume. Any assistance you could lend would be greatly appreciated
I have the samsung galaxy s9 and the airpods 2. This didnt solve the problem for me. Worked fine with the airpods 1.
Unfortunately, disabling absolute volume didn’t work for me. I’m using with Airpods Pro with Nexus 5X running LineageOS 15.1.
This solution worked on my Sony Xperia Ultra 2 until I reused my Airpods on my MacBook, and now the solution does not work. My Airpods are back to low sound. Any solution is welcome!
That solution worked well in pairing the original Airpods with my Pixel 3. Now that I have upgraded to Pixel 4 and Airpods Pro, this solution no longer works.
‘It works for a bit, then it stops working. I dont change any setting but it goes back to the old way on the airpod pros.
This method of increasing volume for airpods does not work in One Plus 6. Would be great if you describe a way to solve it. Thanks.
No my airpods are still way quieter then they should be
I done exactly what the article said to do. But it seems like I’m still having the same issue. I have the Samsung Galaxy A10E.
Hi I switched to developer mode and turned off control absolute volume and my airbuds are still really quiet. I have a Oneplus5T. I can’t figure out how to make them lounder. Volume goes off when the audio is at 40%
You can try with restarting your device and check the Disable absolute volume hope this may help
Hopefully this works for some of you:
I turned on the the switch “Disable Absolute Volume” without any improvement. Afterwards I turned off the switch “Disable Absolute Volume” and went to the Bluetooth settings of the Airpods. I turned Media Audio off and on and now it is working.
Pixel 2: Android 11
Didn’t work for me. I have even restarted phone, and reset the Airpods. They worked perfectly yesterday and are not even a year old yet.
Thanks Ri your solution worked for me
S8 and regular airpods
OMG literally worked!!!! People it really helped after everything!!!!
