Google Chrome is easily one of the most popular and used web browsers on Desktops. this is partially due to the thousands of extensions it supports. These extensions make web browsing on Chrome more convenient and these can be easily downloaded through the Chrome Web Store. Using the browser and opening a lot of tabs may eat of a lot of your RAM, but most of the PCs now come with at least 8 gigs of RAM of this might not be an issue. Unfortunately, Google Chrome users on mobile devices don’t get the same treatment. The mobile version of Google Chrome doesn’t support extensions. However, there is a way you can still use them. Here’s how to use Chrome extensions on Android.
Use Chrome Extensions on Android
As good as it sounds, there is a twist to make this work. You will be able to use most of the Google Chrome extensions, but you will not be using them on the Google Chrome web browser for mobile. To use Google Chrome extensions on Android, you will need an alternative web browser canned Kiwi Browser. Kiwi and Chrome are similar in most aspect as they both are based on Google’s Chromium project.
However, they may be similar but they aren’t the same. You cannot use your Google Account to sync your history and bookmarks across devices. But if you really need those extensions, you’ll love this browser. Download Kiwi Browser from the Google lay Store and let’s get started.
Step 1: Search Extensions
Chrome Web Store cannot be opened from mobile browsers. The extensions it has are for desktop only, so why bother supporting a mobile-friendly site. If you try to access the site from mobile, you’ll simply be asked to send a reminder to yourself to open the store from Desktop. But do not worry, there is a workaround. You can request a desktop site from Kiwi Browser, just like what you could do on Google Chrome.
To do so, tap on the horizontal 3-dot menu and then tap on Desktop Site. You can now browse the Chrome Web Store. Now that you’re using a desktop site on your mobile device, navigating the site may be a bit unfriendly. You’ll need to zoom in to read most of the text and search for extensions. Zoom around and search for the extension you want to install. Once you find it, move on to the next step.
Step 2: Install Extensions
After you’ve found the extension you wanted to use on your mobile device, tap on the Add to Chrome button located at the top right part of the screen. You will be asked for permissions if needed. Tap on Ok, and the extension will begin to install.
If you want to see if the extension got installed, tap on the horizontal 3-dot menu button and then tap on Extensions. The extensions are enabled by default, just like on desktop. You can even manually install extensions using CRX or ZIP file. You will have to enable Developer Mode for that.
Step 3: Uninstall / Disable Extension
Uninstalling extensions are simple and similar to that you would do on Chrome desktop. Go to the extensions screen, find the extension you want to delete, and then tap on Remove. Tap on OK to confirm the uninstallation.
And for disabling any extension, all you have to do is tap on the blue slider right next to the extension’s name on the Extension screen.
