How to Root Gionee S6

Step 1: Open you device’s web browser and go to www.kingroot.net and then download KingRoot app.

Step 2: After the download is complete, scroll down the notification bar and tap on the downloaded apk file. You may need to check Unknown Sources from Settings > Security > Unknown sources.

Step 3: Tap on Install. Tap on Open to open KingRoot app.

Step 4: Tap on Try it to enter the app’s main screen and then tap on Get Now button.

Step 5: After the process is done, you will be returned back to the main screen. Your deice is not rooted.

Step 6: To confirm is your device has root access, go to the Google Play Store and download the Root Checker app.

How to Enable Soft keys on Gionee S6

Gionee S6 lacks backlit capacitive keys; so enabling soft keys will make it easier for your to use your device during night time. You can also change  the position of back and menu key. If you do not want to use both the capacitive keys and soft keys, you can disable the capacitive keys. Here’s how to enable soft keys on Gionee S6.

Step 1: Install Solid Explorer or any other root browser of your choice.

Step 2: Enable root explorer from the app’s settings.

Step 3: Slide from left to right.

Step 4: Tap on Root located at the top and below Storages.

Step 5: Go to System > build.prop

Step 6: Edit the file. Under #performance section, look for the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=1. Replace 1 with 0. Do not touch anything else.

Step 7: Go back and tap on Yes when asked to save the changes.

Step 8: Reboot your device to apply the changes.

How to disable capacitive buttons on Gionee S6

Step 1: Open Solid Explorer and go to system > usr > keylayout.

Step 2: Open the file Generic.kl as text file.

Step 3: Add # prefix in front of :

  1. key 158 BACK VIRTUAL
  2. key 172 HOME VIRTUAL
  3. key 580 APP_SWITCH VIRTUAL

Step 4: Reboot to apply changes.
