OnePlus One was partly powered by Cyanogen OS, but later they developed their own OS called the Oxygen OS. Nevertheless, Cyanogen still builds custom ROMS known as the Cyanogen mod. Cyanogen developed Android Marshmallow based on Cyanogen MOD 13 or CM13 nightly builds for OnePlus 3. Here’s how to flash CM13 Nightly on OnePlus 3.
How to Flash CM13 Nightly on OnePlus 3
Before we start, note that Nightly builds are not final builds or entirely stable. You may encounter bugs every now and then. And also, you will receive updates quite often. So if you are using your OnePlus 3 as a daily driver, I suggest you not to flash CM13 nightly. Moreover, some features such as the theme selector that you find on the official Oxygen OS will be missing. The camera quality will degrade too. But if you want to try a custom ROM then follow the steps below.

Note: You device must have a unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery such as TWRP. Make sure you have backed up important data as you will have to factory reset you device. Use OnePlus 3 Roolkit to unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery and back up apps and data.

Step 1: First, you need to download the latest CM13 nightly build for the OnePlus 3 from their official site. You will also need to download Gapps or Google Applications as they are not included in the custom ROM and you need to flash them separately later. This is important for the device to run properly and also to login to your Google Account.
Step 2: After you finish downloading both the ROM and Gapps, transfer both of the packages to your device’s storage. Now you need to reboot into the recovery mode by holding Volume Up and Power button at the same time.
Step 3: After you get into the recovery (TWRP), go to Wipe and swipe the bar below to confirm. Note that you should not use “format data”, but instead go to Advance Wipe > System and swipe the bar at the bottom.
Step 4: Now, tap on Install and select the CM13 nightly build zip file and swipe the bar below to install. After the ROM finishes flashing, tap on Install again to flash the Gapps. Do not forget to flash Gapps, otherwise you will not be able to sign in to your Google account, access Play Store or restore you contacts.
Step 5: Reboot your device after you have flased both the ROM and Gapps. The initial boot may take up to 15 minutes. If you get stuck in the boot animation, re-flash the ROM.
