Encountering issues with your laptop’s keyboard or touchpad can be frustrating. This is especially true when keys are unresponsive to use or the touchpad is not functioning optimally At the same time, they feel that these issues are common enough that there are some things you can try in order to have the keys/touchpad working again!.
1. Restart Your Laptop
The first basic thing that can be done is turning your laptop off and then powering it back on. This can fix problems that may be interfering with keyboard or touchpad as it can detect minor issues. Turning off the laptop and quickly powering it back on clears down temporary problems and usually solves the issue.
2. Check for External Devices
If you’re using an external mouse or keyboard you want to make sure that those are disconnected. This is because sometimes other external devices may cause an interfence with the full laptop components that are already installed. If other devices can be disconnected, it will reduce the possibilities to isolated laptop issue.
3. Enable the Touchpad
A good number of laptops have a specific shortcut that you can use to toggle the touchpad on and off. If it has been accidentally disabled then the touchpad won’t function as it should. You can turn it on by pressing the function key which turns the touch pad on and off for instance “Fn+F7” or “Fn+F9”. If that doesn’t work, check your laptop’s settings to make sure the touchpad is enabled:
Windows: It’s accessed via Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
Mac: Make sure the Trackpad is turned on Open system Preferences and click the Trackpad.
4. Update or Reinstall Drivers
Keyboard or touch pad problems may result from old or spoiled drivers. To update your drivers:
Windows: In Device Manager, navigate to the Keyboards or Mice and other pointing devices, right click and update the drivers.
Mac: macOS software updates drivers for you but you can search for it manually through Apple Menu > Software Update.
If the above tips do not apply then you should uninstall the drivers and restart your laptop. After booting, the drivers in windows should be reinstalled.
5. Settings for the keyboard and touchpad.
They can also arise due to wrong settings. Check and set your Keyboard Layout correctly and also adjust Touchpad Scrolling sensibility.
Windows: Settings > Devices > Typing and Touchpad.
Mac: System Preferences > Keyboard and Trackpad and check its settings.
6. Clean the keyboard and touchpad
Dirt and dirt may build up before the keyboard or touchpad and prevent the gadget from changing. Using compressed air or a microfiber clean the keyboard and the touchpad lightly.
Conclusion
A lot of keyboard and touchpad problems can be solved through basic solutions that include: rebooting the laptop, checking the settings, or updating the drivers. However even if none of these solutions are helpful, it may be a physical problem and professional help might be necessary.
