Whenever Google Play Store fails to update or install an application, it usually displays error codes for why it can’t perform the task. Following are some common error codes that Google Play gives.
Fix Common Google Play Errors - Error CodesAlthough these errors seem different, they are quite similar. Most of them signify insufficient storage space on device, problems with Google Services app or problems with the Google Account, etc.

Recently I encountered  Error 491 when using the Google Play Store, meaning that a download or update was impossible at that moment. For me uninstalling Google Play Updates and re-installing them worked. However, before you start, try these common hacks to solve Google Play Errors.

  1. Free your storage: Delete unnecessary content or uninstall some of the unused apps to create some more space if you are out of your memory. Then, try to install the app that was giving you the error message. This may instantly solve your issue.
  2. Restart your device: This may sound absurd, but sometimes just re-starting your device can do the trick. So, why not try this once. To restart your device:
  • Press and hold the “Power” button until a menu appears.
  • Select “Power off“.
  • Wait for the device to power off.
  • Wait 10 seconds, then press and hold the “Power” button to power the device back ON.
  • After that, try to download the app again. It may solve your error problem.

#1. Clear App Cache

Sometimes, clearing the cached data solves the  error. This also reduces the app crashes. In order to clean your cache memory, Settings → Apps/Application manager → Google Play Store  → “Manage space/Storage” → “Clear all data/Clear Cache”.

Note: Make sure you Clear App Cache from Google Play Service, Google Service Framework and from Download Manager too.

#2. Re-install Play Store Updates

Errors can sometimes be a result of faulty updates. To eliminate the issue, try re-installing the Play Store Updates. To do so:

  • Go to Settings → Application Settings (In some devices, navigate to Apps).
  • Find Google Play Store
  • Uninstall updates

Once you have uninstalled the Google Play Store updates, restart your device. And finally, update the Google Play Store app once again.

#3. Wipe cache partition

Recovery Mode allows you to perform a select few basic functions. Here, in the recovery mode, clear the cache partition. Here’s how you can do it.

  • Using the Volume Up and Down keys, navigate to Wipe cache partition
  • Press Power button to confirm the selection, then your smartphone will reboot

#4. Reset Your Google Account

Once all of the methods fail, try resetting  your Google Account. For this:

  • Go to Settings
  • Click on Accounts → Select Google
  • Tap on Remove account
  • Reboot the device and then set up the same account once again
