February 19, 2025, Apple announced the release of the iPhone 16e, a new entry-level smartphone aimed at budget-conscious consumers. Pre-orders begin on February 21, with the phone available starting February 28. The iPhone 16e succeeds the iPhone SE and marks the end of Apple iPhones with Touch ID fingerprint buttons.

Key features of the iPhone 16e

  • Price and Availability: The iPhone 16e will retail for $599 in the US. It will be available in black and white matte finishes, with colorful cases available separately.
  • Design and Display: This phone features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a notch for Face ID. It has an aluminum frame and a design reminiscent of the iPhone 14.
  • Processor and Performance: It is powered by the A18 chip, enabling Apple Intelligence features such as notification summaries and Genmoji. The base storage has been increased to 128GB.
  • Camera: The iPhone 16e has a single 48-megapixel Fusion camera with a 2x “optical-quality” telephoto option. It also supports Smart HDR and Night Mode.
  • Connectivity and Battery: The device is equipped with an Apple-designed 5G modem (C1), which Apple claims provides the longest battery life of any 6.1-inch iPhone model. It also includes Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via satellite.
  • Other Features: This phone includes a customizable Action button instead of a Ring/Silent switch and a USB-C port. However, it does not have the Camera Control button found on the rest of the iPhone 16 lineup.
