cool Android lollipop tips and tricks

  1. Use proxy while connecting to a WiFi network:

There are lot of tasks running on a typical smartphone, can be your whatsapp, facebook, twitter or any other web based app, so as soon as the network is activated, each of them tries to connect to internet, which presumably would be presented by firewall’s login prompt (which you don’t have access to, since all of them are in a background task), now, since there are so many of them accessing net at once, the overall internet speed definitely becomes slow, which will finally lead you to need a proxy. You will need a proxy for many other purposes other than this, such as to filter encrypted data, translate, access services anonymously and so on. 2. Set up ‘on-body detection’ feature:

Imagine that you are in your tea-shop, and you are so forgetful that while returning from there, you forgot pick up your Android smartphone from the table and in addition to that, you forgot even to lock it. How would the situation be? Think about the insecurities that you would have to face from that. Your secret data, and everything you keep in your smartphone get in the risk of being stolen. How would it be, if your smartphone would lock itself as soon as you put it somewhere (you would at least not have the risk of your data being stolen from that)!

  3. Get lock screen widgets:

Lollipop has a lot of new and improved features, for instance the revamped Lollipop Lock Screen. This caused the traditional lock screen widgets to disappear. But fear not as Develop Seth has looked into this problem and created an app that enables widgets on the lock screen.

  4. Use the Face Unlock Feature

No one takes privacy and security for granted. It is safe to assume that most of you use lock screen protected with password, patterns and PINs. That is a good thing; if you want an illusion of security. These password, patterns and PINs can be known simply by peeking when you are typing them. And obviously you don’t use a password with 18+ characters as you need to access your phone frequently each day. Luckily for you there is another lock screen security feature on Android – the Face Unlock feature. Face Unlock feature is not a new thing for Android but it has improved a lot on the Android’s new operating system – Lollipop.

  5. Access the Flappy Android Easter Egg:

Android has a new Easter Egg for each version of Android it releases, which is similar to the name for the version it uses. Such as, there was the Ginger like Easter Egg in 2.3 Gingebread version, Jelly beans in 4.1/4.2/4.3 Jelly Bean version, and KitKat on the 4.4 KitKat version (though the user-interactive easter eggs for Android only started from Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich version only). Similarly, there is a new type of Easter Egg in Android 5.0 Lollipop (the latest and newly released version of Android), which resembles to the name, but is quite unique compared to the old ones. Don’t be surprised to know that you can now actually play with the Android 5.0 Lollipop Easter Egg- it is now a Flappy Bird Clone.

  6. Set up User Accounts:

Adding and managing user accounts is always a great option, especially if you feel insecure about someone using your device. You may not want any other person to use or see your files, or anything. If you have the option to add the user accounts in your device, you can restrict the other users what they can see or access, and be out of worries. For example, you can set up kid mode, if your child uses your phone a lot, and make that account able to access only some games or internet.

  7. Pin and unpin the screen:

In the Android 5.0 Lollipop, there is a new cool feature, which is known as screen pinning. This features allow the person who has got the phone to use only one app which is allowed, while the rest of the phone is locked. Although the Android 5.0 Lollipop runs in very less devices till now and is yet to arrive for most of the phones, we’ve been discussing about it and its super cool features, since the very first time it was released (even before that in some ways). The function to pin and unpin the screen is one of them, and if you are a newbie to the latest version of Android, here we are sharing a guide on how to use this feature Android 5.0 Lollipop.ere:

  8. Enable Battery Saver Mode:

With the advancement in the specifications of the Android smartphones and tablets, the size of the battery contained inside them is also getting bigger. With the increasing capacity of the battery, the devices’ endurance rating is also increasing. The OS and specs also consume a lot of battery charge, and hence, we have to charge our device more frequently than before. There are different solutions for the problem of quick battery discharging in Android, like the power banks, turbo chargers etc. But it is the fact that these items are not always in our possession. When we do not have access to chargers (or we can’t charge even if we have the access), our smartphone becomes dead in most of the cases, since the phone continues to consume heavy charge. To cope up with this problem at least to some extent, since the past, the developers have made some apps which enable the ‘power saving mode’, enabling which makes the device to use less power. The mechanism of this mode is so simple though- just close some functions which use more charge.

  9. Access Quick Settings:

Android 5.0 Lollipop is the best version of the operating system till date, with some really cool features. While some of the features are all new, some of them are just like the old, but some are just renovated, that means, the same old features, but presented in a different manner. Same is the case for quick settings, which is very useful for the users, and makes a lot easy to use the smartphones. This is mainly used to enable or disable commonly used features like Bluetooth, wifi and screen brightness of the device. In the versions older than Lollipop, we can swipe down from the top, and click on the settings icon (or just swipe down using two fingers, but only in some devices) to access the quick settings. However, Google has changed the process required for the users to access quick settings, in the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

  10. Set up Smart Lock and Trusted Devices:

Everyday, we unlock our smartphone a lot of times (probably hundreds of times a day). This is so obvious, we are so obsessed with our smartphones, even more than most of the basic needs these days. And for us to use our phone, we have to unlock it everytime, as we have to lock it while it is not being used. There are many ways to lock the phone, especially for the security purposes in Android, be it pin, pattern, face unlock or password. It is good for users, but equally boring. Even for very small purposes, for example- to change a radio station or favourite a song, we have to draw the pattern or input the password. We had always been expecting it to be easier for us, and boom! Here is the solution. In the latest version of Android, Android 5.0 Lollipop, it will be easy to unlock our phone using the smart lock feature. We can set the trusted devices using Bluetooth or NFC, and whenever such Bluetooth device or an NFC tag is in range of your phone, the security lock will be disabled.

The unwanted notifications, which pop up while you do not want them, are so annoying. The sound which is produced is even more disturbing, especially while you are at work or some busy situations. There were a lot of methods to get rid of them in the previous versions of Android, but the Android 5.0 Lollipop has a built-in features, which is called as priority mode to manage all of them.
