Adding and managing user accounts is always a great option, especially if you feel insecure about someone using your device. You may not want any other person to use or see your files, or anything. If you have the option to add the user accounts in your device, you can restrict the other users what they can see or access, and be out of worries. For example, you can set up kid mode, if your child uses your phone a lot, and make that account able to access only some games or internet.
Users accounts have been in the tablets in the versions as early as Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but there was nothing about this in the smartphones. But from Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google has added this feature for the smartphones too. So, if you want to set up User Accounts in Android 5.0 Lollipop, here is a guide on how to do it.
Add an Account
- Go to Menu >> Settings >> Users OR;
- Tap the User icon in the Notification tray (swype twice from up to access this).
Using either ways, you will see the option to Add an Account there. Tap on the option ‘Add user or profile’. There will be only your (owner) account and the guest account by default, and you can add as many as you want, depending on your preferences. While adding the account, you will get a bar asking you what type of account you want to add, User or Restricted profile. The Users have their own apps and content, and you can restrict the Restricted profile’s access to apps and content from your account. This means that the Restricted profiles could be better for the kids.
Switch between Accounts
To switch between the accounts that you have created, pull down the notification tray, tap the user icon once, then once again and pick which account you want to switch to. Follow suit to return to the Owner account.
Remove an Account
If an account is not necessary anymore, there is no need to keep it. Hence, you have the option to delete the account which you’ve created but don’t need. Follow the given steps for this:
- Go to Menu >> Settings >> Users.
- Tap in the user you want to remove.
- After you enter, you will see the option to remove the user account. Tap there and you’re done.
Apart from adding, switching or removing, you can also add or uninstall any app for the users from the Owner account. The User account is certainly a nice feature for those who use it in real, or those who have problem of their phone being used by multiple users.
