A fingerprint sensor is everyone’s convenient and go to way of securing their device. Even PC come with fingerprint scanners that can unlock the desktop. Every smartphone has it nowadays. iPhone has TouchID and Windows has Windows Hellow. However, Apple never added a fingerprint scanner onto their Macs. The same goes for Face ID. It is still not added on Macbooks. So, keeping this in mind, if you own an Android device and use a Mac, you can use DroidID to unlock Mac with Android fingerprint scanner. Here’s how.
Unlock Mac with Android
There are a few requirements that need to be checked before you start unlocking your Mac with your Android device. you must install a client on Mac and have an Android device with a fingerprint scanner (of course). Besides these, there are a few requirements that are listed below:
- Mac should be running El Capitan (macOS 10.12) or above
- Keychains must be enabled on Mac.
- Android device running Android 7 or above with a fingerprint scanner.
- Fingerprints configured on your Android device.
Now, if you fulfill aforementioned requirements, you can begin by installing DroidID on your Android device. similarly, install DroidID mac client on your Mac. Open the client on your Mac and then open DroidID on your Android device. You will see a code with you first launch the app. Enter that code on your Mac’s client and assign a password that will unlock your Mac. After this, your Mac will restart and ask for access to Keychains. Allow the access and you’re done.
However, there are a few limitations to unlocking your Mac with this method. DroidID will work when your Mac automatically locks when it goes to sleep if you lock it via the menu bar, but it will not work when you boot your system. If you restart or boot your Mac, you will need to enter the password.
