How to solve Error 506 in Google Play store?

Fix google paly error 506

Few days ago I encounter the Error 506 while downloading the app from Google Play Store. It was just annoying because every time I try to download the app, the app starts downloading perfectly fine but when the download is about to complete an error message pops-up saying –App could not be downloaded due to an error 506. Whenever I try to download the app, the same error message displays on the screen. I knew that the problem was not with the app because many of the other people were able to download the app successfully. Recently I  got similar error code 506 while downloading PUBG.

Now, I have to get rid of this error so I tried many methods and finally I was able to get rid of this error. Here, I will mention some of the methods that works for the Error code 506.

Some of the Methods to solve Error 506 in Google Play store?

Method 1: Clear Cache and Data

  • Go to Setting >> Go to Application Setting (In some devices application setting is named as apps).
  • Go to, All the apps > >Find the Google Play Store >> Clear Data and Cache
  • Once you have clear everything, Next you need to Force Stop the application.
  • Similarly, Find the Google Play Service >> Clear Data and Cache
  • Also, Find Google Services Framework >> Open Google Services Framework >> Clear cache and data
  • Now, Restart your device and try to download the app.

It has worked for many users and hopefully it will work for you also. If it didn’t worked for you, go to next method.

Method 2: Unmount SD card

  • Go to Setting >> Storage >> Scroll down and select “Unmount SD card
  • Open Google Play Store >> Download the app again that was giving you the error message
  • After successful installation, Go back to Settings >> Storage  >> tap on “mount SD card”
  • If above steps didn’t work, also try removing your SD card before installing.

The above mentioned method should solve this issue. If the error is still appearing then proceed to next method.

Method 3: Remove and add Google Account

  • Go to Setting >> Accounts >> Google
  • Remove all your Google accounts
  • Go back to Google play store and Sign–in your account information
  • Accept all the Google terms and setup Google settings then Run Google Play Store and download the app.

Removing and adding the Google Account has solved the issue for many users as there was problem with the Google account. If this help you to fix the error then the job is done otherwise head to next method.

Method 4: Change the Storage Setting

Most of the users have found this solution to be working fine. After changing the storage setting users were able to download the app without any error message displaying on-screen.
Steps to change the Storage Setting:

  • Go to Setting >> Storage >> Preferred install location
  • Tap on Preferred install location, a box will pop-up with different option
  • Select “Let the system decide” option
  • Open Google Play Store >> Download the app again that was giving you the error message

This method should work for you. Somehow if this method didn’t worked for you try the additional tip that I have mentioned below.

You just download the older version of apk for that particular app and install it. After that go to Google Play Store and update the app to get the latest version of that app. (if you want to get the latest version then only, otherwise use the older version that you have installed (apk)).

So, these are some of the method to fix the error 506 in Google play store. Different methods work for different people and hopefully you have also fixed the error 506 by using these methods. Let us know on which app you got this error and which method worked for you or if you have any other method.

  1. Thanks for the help but nothing worked . It all started a day or so after I installed link2sd, which seemed to work fine. But I lost my Netflix install and it now won’t install. Also, youtube won’t play giving error “There was a problem while playing (Playback ID: gRQ1_ etc). Crackle and other apps install but won’t play video.

    • Sounds like you didn’t solve 506. Try changing storage to internal storage. Go to YouTube apo. It will tell you to sign in on Google play or to update…….update Google play.

  2. Just delete the remain dead files (the app file name you want to install) in Data/data, than you can reinstall it again, why the people so call expert never tech this and just talk alot of useless bullshit!

    • Yes…this is the best method for the error related to link2sd or app2sd. I use root explorer and delete .com youtube file in data/data

  3. Mohammed thank you I did everything but method 4 when I was trying to fix this. I stored Google play on internal storage and now it works like a charm. It makes sense because it is a system app.

  4. Thaks, but Sorry to say that l have tried every steps but still I am having the same problem cant install app error code 506 n can’t download error code 963
