Solution: Old apps automatically install on new android phone or tablet

Cool thing about Android is that it syncs most important data in your Android devices to your Google account. For example your contacts, Google Keep notes, photos, calendar and even app data are synced. So, if you decide to switch to a newer android device, you can simply add your Google account and then android will sync the stuffs from your older device to the new one. It’s a great feature but sometimes it can be headache specially if you had a lot of apps installed in your older device. The moment you add your Google account to your new android device, Google play store will begin installing all the apps installed in your older device.   You may not want all of those apps in your new android so follow these steps to stop old apps from automatically installing on your new android device:

  • If the apps are already installed uninstall then open your Apps drawer and then long-press any unwanted app >>  press ‘App info‘ >> then select “Uninstall”. Continue for other apps. Or, you can simply uninstall apps from Settings> Apps >> Select “All” tab >> Select App from the list and then “Uninstall”.
  • Once all the useless apps from your old android device are uninstalled, the next step is to remove them from your Google account. Open the Google Play app.
  • Click on the top right Google Play icon or slide from left corner to right to bring up the user menu.
  • Select “My Apps” >> Open “All” tab
  • From the list of all apps, long press an app that you want to remove from Google account and then tap other unwanted apps to select them.
  • Press the ‘X’ on the top right corner and a message will pop up “Remove the selected apps from my apps?
  • Select “OK” and remove all selected apps from your account.

There you go.  Your older apps will no longer come back to haunt you. Happy app hunting.
