Samsung Galaxy Alpha: a mid-range metal Android smartphone

Samsung’s probably taking a turn in its way- as it has now released a new phone, which has a metal body- the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. This is a new device from Samsung (which looks like the iPhone), has some important features such as fingerprint sensor, but most of the specs are mid-range.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha

It features a 4.7-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) Super AMOLED display, which has a pixel density of 312 ppi, and has TBD protection. The handset sports a sleek profile with dimensions 132.4×65.5×6.7mm and weighs 115 grams. The phone will have 32 GB of internal memory, and does not have any expandable storage options. It has 2 GB RAM,  and for the processing power, there will be a Exynos 5 Octa 5430 chipset complied with a Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7, and a Mali-T628 MP6 GPU. The smartphone also comes in a quad-core variant with a clock speed of 2.5GHz, presumably the Snapdragon 805 SoC the other LTE-A smartphones are carrying. For the photography and videography options, this smartphone will have a 12 MP primary camera with autofocus and LED Flash which can capture videos upto 2160p @ 30 fps, and a 2.1 MP secondary camera for video calls and selfies. The juice will be provided by a Li-Ion 1860 mAh battery, which is not much decent (rather to be called disappointing). For the connectivity options, there will be LTE support, microUSB v2.0, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi and NFC. The phone will run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system, and we can’t say anything about the future updates. The phone will be available  in Black, white, gold, silver and blue color options.

With some good features such as metallic frame, paypal certified fingerprint sensor and sleek look, it is a pretty good phone but the battery is however, really bad. Had Samsung done something for this, it would be a great phone. The price of the phone is also quite high, as it costs $689, according to the reports circulating around. A UK retailor, Clove has even put it for preorder at a price of £500 (US$850) , which is quite high given the specs. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is already officially headed to Three UK, and is expected to be available in the rest parts of the world from September.
