Install Incompatible App on Android

So a new game just released and you head over to the Google Play Store and search for it. You can’t find it, so you recheck the spelling and searched it again. You still can’t find it. So you head over to Google Play Store from your PC and search for the game there. You find out that the game you’re trying to install is incompatible with your device for some reason. Or, maybe it is region restricted and you can’t install it in your region. If you are sure that the incompatible app you’re trying to install will run on your device, there are a couple of ways you can still get the app. Here’s how to install incompatible app on Android.

Install Incompatible App

If the app you’re trying to install is not available in your region, you can use VPN to trick Play Store in thinking that you are in a compatible region. And if you are trying to install an incompatible app, you can download the APK for that app and install it without using the Play Store. Here’s how.

Un-restrict Region using VPN

You may already know what a VPN is. For those who don’t, it is basically a private and secure tunnel between two or more devices. It can be used for snooping IP addresses to stay anonymous on the Web. Using VPN, you can mask your location and trick Play Store in thinking that you have changed your region.Install Incompatible App

There are a few good VPN apps, but the most popular ones are Tunnel Bear and Private Internet Access. the process of setting up most of the VPNs are kind of similar. Follow the steps below to setup Tunnel Bear;

  1. Get Tunnel Bear from Google Play Store.
  2. Open the app.
  3. Create an account.
  4. Turn it on and tap on any tunnel and wait for the bear to get there.
  5. Agree to the connection request.
  6. Go grab that previously region restricted app.

Tunnel Bear is free to use if you can limit your data usage to 500 MB per month. If you can’t do that, you can purchase the premium plan.

Sideloading APK

Use this method when you are sure you can run the app that is marked incompatible on Google Play Store. And note that this method only works for the app that is free.

What you need is a site called APK Downloader. Head over to the site. Copy the incompatible app’s URL and paste it on the text box inside APK Downloader. Click on Generate Download Link and download the APK. You can now copy this APK on your device’s storage and install it.
