Google recently announced their latest version of Android – Android Oreo. Like before, they will be rolled out to Pixel and Nexus devices and there is no telling when Oreo will be made available for other devices. But like usual, the hardworking genius developers figured out how to get the latest Oreo launcher to devices that may never get Oreo update. And the good news is, you do not require root to install this launcher. Here’s how to get Oreo launcher on your Android. The installation process is simple for any user to perform and can be done in few easy steps.
Get Oreo Launcher
Installation of third party app that is not from Google Play Store requires you to enable Unknown Sources. So, go to Settings > Security > Unknown Sources and enable it. When prompted with a warning, just tap on OK.
Now, go to this GitHub page to download the launcher apk. Click on Rootless Pixel Launcher 2.1 update and select Launcher3-aosp-debug.apk’s download link. If you’re on your computer, transfer the apk to the device you want to install it to. On your device, locate the apk file and install it. After it is installed, tap on the home button. Select Always if you want it to be your default launcher. Turn on notifications when prompted. And this is it. With these few easy steps, you can experience the new Pixel 2.1 launcher.
If this brand new launcher is not your cup of tea, uninstalling it is a piece of cake. You can uninstall it like any other app on your device, but you need to clear the defaults first if you have selected Always previously. Go to Settings > Apps > Launcher3 > Open by default > Clear defaults. Now go back and uninstall as usual.
So this is it. This launcher no major changes from the one on Nougat. So, as the installation process is as easy as it gets, you might as well try it.
