Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2 Launched

With Apple’s iPhone launch event just around the corner, Xiaomi has unveiled Mi Mix 2 – the successor to its last year’s bezel-less concept smartphone. The Mi Mix 2, designed by legendary designer Philippe Starck, continues the legacy of the original bezel-less Mi Mix but shrinks down the display size for better real life usage. The specifications of the Mi Mix 2 are top-notch, fit for a flagship device.

Mi Mix 2 Specifications

  • 5.99-inch 2160×1080 LCD at 401ppi
  • 151.8mm x 75.5mm x 7.7mm, 185g
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor
  • 6GB of RAM (8GB on ceramic special edition)
  • 64/128/256GB storage options (special edition is only 128GB)
  • 3400mAh battery
  • USB-C
  • No headphone jack
  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • MIUI 9, based on Android Nougat
  • 43 LTE bands

However, no smartphone is perfect. The Mix Mix 2 is not water resistant. It has no headphone jack , no memory card slot and no wireless charging. Regardless of these shortcomings, the Mi Mix 2 is a true design marvel and it’s as close as you can get to a literally bezel-less display. It has a giant screen crammed into a familiar footprint of other smartphones with smaller screens.

The original Mi Mix had a piezoelectric ceramic driver on the back but the Mix Mix 2 now has an actual earpiece speaker tucked at the top of the phone. The front-facing camera is still at the bottom right of the phone but it seems to be seamlessly integrated into the chin of the phone, which Xiaomi boasts to be 12% smaller than its predecessor.
Xiaomi says it designed the Mi Mix 2 to be all about the content — the device itself falls away into the background, putting just the content on the screen into focus. In this regard, the Mi Mix 2 is unlike any other phone in the market today.

Since, Xiaomi now has a presence in over 40 countries, the Mi Mix 2 should be up for sale in most of those markets. The Mi Mix was built to show off Xiaomi’s technological innovations, and the Mi Mix 2 is its worthy successor.

What do you think of the Mi Mix 2? Will it be as or more popular than the Galaxy S8 or the upcoming iPhone? Let us know in the comments below.
