India is the world’s second-largest mobile market and has one billion mobile phone subscribers. Freedom 251 is the name of the above smartphone that is expected to target a market already dominated by low-cost handsets.
The Freedom 251 smartphone made by a new company called Ringing Bells, has caught eyes of the people around the world. Priced at 251 indian rupees ($3.65), the 3G device is being called the cheapest smartphone in the world. But the question that pop up in everyone’s mind is ‘How it’s going to work’!
Well if we talk about it’s specification focusing on it’s price then we must say the price is worth to be paid.
Some of the specification are listed below.
- It has 4 inch (10.2 cms) qHD IPS display.
- It has 3.2 MP Rear camera & 3 MP Front camera.
- It has 1.3 GHz Quadcore processor, 1 GB RAM and 8GB internal memory (supports SD card and expandable up to 32 GB).
- The battery is 1450 mAh.
- It runs on Android’s Lollipop 5.1 operating system.
The phone looks very similar to Apple’s iPhone 4 , even down to icons that copy the appearance of Apple’s home screen and the home button is also similar to iPhone 4. Reviewers who reviewed at the phone say it doesn’t offer anything exceptional rather than the price.
Indian Cellular Association (ICA) has written to Telecom Minister requesting him to get into depth of the issue, saying the price could not be below Rs 3,500 even after a subsidized sale. Ringing Bells, on its part, said the manufacturing cost of the phone is about Rs 2,500, which will be recovered through a series of measures like economies of scale, innovative marketing, reduction in duties and creating an e-commerce marketplace.
