Notifications are useful for a lot of reasons. A news app can notify you when an article that might interest you gets published, or if someone has liked your photo on Instagram or DMed you. But there are apps that bombard you with notifications and you develop a habit of dismissing them without looking at what it is about. This habit can sometimes make you dismiss notifications that might be important for you. Only if there was a way to control it. Fortunately, there is. You can view all your dismissed notifications when you got the time. Here’s how to view notification history on Android.
View Notification History on Android
There are a couple of ways you can view logged notifications on Android 8,9 and 10. You can either choose the inbuilt notification logger or a better 3rd party alternative. Let’s get to it.
Method 1: In-built Notification Log
Not all versions of Android support notification logs out of the box. Most of the phones with Android 9 or 10 should have this feature but it is better to make sure. To check if your Android has Notification Logs feature;
- Tap and hold an empty space on your home screen.
- Select Widgets.
- Find Settings. Tap on it.
- Drag the Settings shortcut to your home screen.
- If you can find Notification Log from the list of settings shortcuts then your device supports the feature. If not, you have to opt for a 3rd party option.
If you have the option, you can tap on the Notification Log shortcut you just placed on your home screen and see the list of notification that you dismissed. Also, this may not be the most user-friendly option. It is better if you use a 3rd party app.
Method 2: Unnotification
IF you choose to use a 3rd party app, then Unnotification is what you should go for. It is user friendly and supports Android version 8 and above. This app doesn’t only show you the notification log but also retrieves the ones you dismissed. And it is completely free.

After you install the app and open it for the first time, you need to grant it permission to access Notifications. This is essential for obvious reasons. Unnotification will silently run in the background, listening to your notifications. If you try to dismiss a notification. It will ask to confirm your actions to prevent unintended action.
The default settings configuration may annoy you after some time as it will constantly ask you if you want to retrieve dismissed notification and you cannot dismiss its own notification. But Unnotification lets you customize its settings as per your preference. You can choose to stop it from running in the background and stop those frequent notification asking you to retrieve notifications without compromising much of its functionalities.
