The Picture-in-Picture mode in Android O is making it easy for you to multitask while you’re watching a video. If you have ever used a TV with this function, you already know how it works. Picture-in-Picture mode or PiP in short already works with VLC for Android. Unfortunately, using it is not that easy yet. You have to enable a feature in VLC for it to work with PiP. How to use Picture in Picture mode in Android O
Update VLC to the latest version
Apart from your device running on Android 8.0, to use the new PiP mode, VLC also need to be updated to its latest version. So head over to the Google Play Store and update it to the latest version. If you don’t have VLC installed, this is the time to install it.
Background Playback
This is a vital step to get PiP working with VLC. You will need to enable background playback. So, open VLC for Android, swipe the left edge of the screen to access the side navigation panel and then tap on Settings. Now, tick the box next to “Play videos in background” option.
Picture in Picture
Whenever you’re watching a video in VLC, you can easily put the player in PiP mode by tapping on the 3-dot menu and then selecting the Picture-in-Picture icon. It looks like a “rectangle inside another rectangle”. When you press the icon, the video screen will shrink down to a small floating window in the bottom-right corner of the screen. You can drag it anywhere on the screen. The video will stay top on the screen even if you open any app. if you want to restore it to original size, you can tap the full screen icon available on the video playback screen along with other controls.
