How to take screenshots in HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z and more

The latest OS updates have made it possible to take screenshots without the need for an expensive third party app. Before Jellybean, taking screenshots in OS such as Gingerbread or Ice-cream Sandwich was a big hassle.  Now in the the latest Jellybean OS and upwards have built-in feature that makes taking screenshots a breeze. In most of today’s android devices, to take the screenshots you will simply have to use a button combination. However, different devices have different designs such as button placements, capacitive buttons and so on, so the ways to take screenshot might be different. Here is how you can take screenshots in the smartphones with the latest android updates:

Method 1: Taking snapshot/screenshot using power button and volume button combo

  • Simultaneously press the power button and the volume down button on your android device
  •  Now you should hear the shutter, release the buttons and you will see a screenshot preview for  a second
  • In the notification bar, you will see the message “Saving screenshot”
  • To open the image, simply tap the screenshot image from the notification bar or go to Pictures/Screenshots folder and your will find the images there
  • You can even share the screenshot right from the notification bar just after using the button combo to take the screenshots

Note: Method 1 works on most android devices (HTC One, One mini, One X, Samsung Galaxy s2, s3, s4, Note 2, Note 3, Sony Xperia Z etc) with the latest Jellybean update and above.

Method 2: Using power button and capacitive home button combo

This method focuses mostly on HTC devices such as HTC One, HTC One X, HTC Desire X, HTC One s HTC One v, HTC Explorer, HTC Wildfire, HTC Sensation and so on. However, method 2 also works for other android devices with capacitive buttons like that of HTC smartphones.

  • Hold the power button and quickly tap the capacitive home button (the capacitive button on the right side of the HTC logo in HTC ONE, The middle capacitive button in the HTC One X)
  • Now a message appears that tells you “The screenshot saved to Pictures/Screenshots”.
  • In this method you will not get any preview of the screenshot in the notification bar.
  • Go to Pictures/Screenshots folder to see your snapshots

Don’t worry if you can’t get the buttons right the first time. Practice a little and you will get a hang of the screenshot button combos.
