A report was published with details on Facebook’s privacy issues. That same report stated and which later on Facebook confirmed that the users who have enabled two-factor authentication or 2FA have been unknowingly giving away their phone number to advertisers. And we all thought 2FA was meant for our safety. It was a really bad decision of Facebook’s part which we can do little about. But what we can do is stop advertisers from getting out phone numbers. Here’s how to stop advertisers from using our number for targeted ads on Facebook.

There are separate ways to do this on mobile and desktop.
On Mobile, you need to open Facebook and go to Settings and Privacy. You can find it on the home screen’s hamburger menu. Select Settings and then select Personal Information. you’ll be taken to another screen where you’ll see your email address, name, phone number along with other information. You’ll need to remove the phone number. Select it and tap on Remove. You’ll be asked to enter your password. Tap on Remove Phone.
If you are on Desktop, open Facebook and click on Settings. It is located in the drop-down menu. Find Choose Your Facebook Information and click on it. Click on View located under Access Your Information. you’ll be taken to another screen call Personal Information. There, you can find Your Contact Information. you’ll see your phone number there. Simply click on Remove, enter your password and then click on Remove Phone.
You may also want to remove two-factor authentication. To remove 2FA, on your mobile, go to Settings > Security and Login > Two Factor Authentication. Disable it.
