Sony Xperia L, M, C and SP not to get any future updates

Sony is usually good with the updates of its Xperia smartphones, but this time there is a sad news for the users of some Xperia models. Sony has officially announced that Xperia L, M, C and SP will not get any future updates from the smartphone manufacturer. This means, these phones will not receive any KitKat updates, and hence have to be satisfied with the JellyBean only.

Though all four smartphones feature 1GB of RAM and dual-core Krait processors, which on paper are sufficient to run Android 4.4 KitKat smoothly, we don’t actually know why Sony took this decision. Among these, the Xperia L and M both had 1 GHz dual core Snapdragon processors. Let it be the cause for Sony to not update these phones, but the case is different for the rest. The Sony Xperia C has a 1.7 GHz MediaTek processor, while the SP had a Snapdragon processor with the same clockspeed as C.

Among these phones, while the Xperia SP and M got at least the latest version of JellyBean- 4.3, the C and L had to satisfy themselves with Android 4.2 JellyBean only. All these phones were released with 4.1 JellyBean first (except the Xperia C), and had got at least one update version though. The major pain in the ass is for the Xperia C users- having the 1.7 GHz processor, they could not even get the version which the 1 GHz Xperia M is using currently. This is a sad fact that they did not even get one major update, all they could get were three minor firmware updates. This shows that the buyers should be a little alert while buying the smartphones having mediatek processor onwards.

While Sony used to give the major updates to most of its mid-range devices in the past years, it seems as if the company has started following Samsung’s footsteps of ignoring the mid-range phones and their users, which means by not providing major system updates. So, now that the Sony Xperia L, M, C and SP are set not to get any future updates, we can have the sympathy to their users.
