It is a good choice to upload all your photos to Google Photos as you get free unlimited storage space if you’re willing to limit the resolution to 16 MP and video resolution to 1080p. That isn’t too bad if you’re getting free unlimited storage. You can also upload them at higher resolutions but the storage counts against your Google Drive quota. So if you have loads of old printed photos of your childhood, it can be wise to upload it to Google Photos. All you need is a scanning tool. Fortunately, Google has its own scanning tool. Now that all your old photos are digitized, you need to upload them to the cloud. This is where Backup and Sync app by Google comes in handy. There’s a version for both Windows and Mac. Install it and log in it using your Google credentials. Once opened, the app will let you choose what you want to back up to Google Drive. Just choose Photos and Videos and select the quality, choose High Quality for unlimited storage. Choose the folders you want to sync with the cloud along with other details like metadata. Once done, sit back and let the program do its work.

You can set the settings however you want. You can choose whether you want to keep the photos on your computer after they’ve been uploaded or not. You can also backup directly from removable storage. This removes the hassle of multiple transfers.

Note that there are some other limitations. You cannot upload photos with the size greater than 75 MB or smaller than 256 x256 or videos bigger than 10GB. It takes most of the common video and photo formats but i’ll list the supported formats for you to view. It supports .jpg, .png, .webp, some RAW files, .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv file formats.
