Open Google Assistant using gestures on OnePlus 5T and 6

The gesture controls on OnePlus 5T and 6 make using these devices a delight. You can do a lot of working just by gestures. But, there is no way to open Google Assistant through gesture. You can only access it if you press and hold the home button (5T and 6 doesn’t even have a home button). You can access Google Assistant via voice command but this doesn’t see the most convenient way. However, there is a workaround to this. You can still open Google Assistant using gestures on OnePlus 5T and 6. Here’s how.

Open Google Assistant using gestures on OnePlus 5T and 6

Although you can use any 3rd party launcher that supports gesture control, we will be using Nova Launcher Prime in this articles because that is the launcher I’m currently using. The free version still has some gestures but to use all available gestures, you will need the Prime version. It is available for $ 4.99 in the Google Play Store. Follow the step below to open Google Assistant using gestures on OnePlus 5T and 6.

Open Google Assistant using gestures on OnePlus 5T

Step 1: Get Nova Launcher Prime from Google Play Store.

Step 2: After the installation finishes, set the newly installed launcher as the default one. Go to Settings> Default Home app and set Nova Launcher Prime as default.

Step 3: Go to Nova Settings > Gestures & Input.

Step 4: Tap on the Home button settings and select Assistant. Disable the Only on default page toggle.

Step 5: You can set your own custom gesture if the pre-defined ones are not on your preference. IF you do not, the default gesture will be a swipe up when on the home screen.

This is it. you can now open Google Assistant when you swipe up on the home screen. If you have set custom gesture, you can do that to open Assistant. Note that if you perform the gesture when on an app or another screen, you’ll be taken to the home screen instead of opening the Assistant.
