One of the interesting feature in iOS is definitely it’s intelligent assistant, Siri. Siri lets you get things like setting reminders and composing text messages done much faster. Sounds like it’s now time to make Siri smarter.

Get Started to Make Siri Smarter

Siri is a time-saving tool for getting things done. Just put in a little effort to train Siri, with these simple steps.

Make Siri Smarter

#1. Re-train Siri To Hear You

Siri often fails to start when you utter, “Hey Siri”. If so, it’s time to start over and retrain Siri. Simply, go to Settings >> Siri. Then toggle switch off back and on again to Listen for “Hey Siri“. This will redirect you to the setup process again to train Siri to recognize your voice.

#2. Correct Siri if she’s wrong

When our dear Assistant makes a mistake pronouncing names, we usually ignore it and carry on. But now, teach Siri to pronounce names in your Contacts correctly.

When Siri pronounces a name incorrectly, you can tell her, “That’s not how you say that“. Or simply say, “learn how to pronounce ABC XYZ“. She’ll ask how to pronounce name correctly. Siri will listen and offer you pronunciation options. All you have to do is select the one that sounds the best.

#3. Change Siri’s default Search Engine

Siri uses Google as it’s default Search Engine. However, sometimes train Siri to use other search engines too. Rephrase your query to “Search Bing for Appslova” or “Search Yahoo for Appslova” and this will do the trick.

You can also actually change Siri’s default Search Engine. To do so, go to Settings >> Safari >> Search Engine and choose your preferred search engine.

#4. Use Punctuation on your Queries

Siri is very handy when you need to type a long email or message. Simply, dictate the message to Siri. But, this can give you a long string of texts without any punctuation marks or even at random places.

Here are some other commands to make your dictations to Siri far more accurate:

  • “All caps”: Make the next word uppercase. Saying “All caps on” and “All caps off” toggles caps lock.
  • “Cap”: Capitalize the first letter of the next word you dictate with the Cap command.
  • Speak names of symbols: Introduce symbols into text using. For example:  asteriskpercentcopyrightregistered, and such.
  • Dictate emoticons: Enter emoticons in your dictation. Say “smiley face”, “frowny face” and the appropriate emoticon will appear on the screen.
