KitKat crosses 30% among the Android versions this October

Google has officially released the report of the share of its different Android versions this October, and KitKat tops the list. With the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the previous version, 4.4 KitKat operates in 30.2% among all the Android smartphones now in the bygone month, which is a pretty good thing to know.

However, though KitKat has its share increased, the ruling version of Android is still the Jellybean, when all its sub versions- 4.1.x, 4.2.x and 4.3 are combined. Though it is almost 3% less than last month (September), with the share of 50.9%, it is the highest. If the individual sub-versions of Jellybean are counted, 4.1.x holds 22.8%, 4.2.x holds 20.8% and 4.3 Jellybean holds 7.3% among all.

Though very less in numbers, but there are still some Froyo devices running there, which accounts as 0.6%. The three-year old Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is still operating on 8.5% of all devices. Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the other hand saw its distribution share drop into single digits to 9.8%. It is sad to see that so many Android devices still hold the Gingerbread version, but most of these are the low-end phones, which are not cared enough by manufactures to be updated.

In the next month’s report, we will most probably see the Android 5.0 Lollipop, the latest version to have some of the space (since the update has begun or will soon enough begin to roll out for some devices, and will come also with Nexus 6 and Nexus 9), and let’s hope that it will be conquering the Android world soon, replacing the older versions, especially the Gingerbread. The achievement of increasing number of KitKat is however, because this update had been given really fast by manufacturers such as Motorola and HTC, and a hell lot of KitKat devices were released this year, and the process continues.
