Huawei P9 Collection

Design of the phone

Huawei P9

Huawei P9 has all metal unibody design, chamfered edges all around the rim, metal finish at the back with it’s logo. There is no physical home button on the device and you will find all the navigation keys are on the screen.
You will see volume rocker and power button on the right side, Simcard Tray (It has also space for the Micro SD card) on the left side, USB Type-C port, Speaker Grill, Microphone, Headphone Jack on the button of the phone. On the back of the phone there is an area in black where LEICA dual camera is held along with LED flash and just below that you have fingerprint reader.

Display of Huawei P9

Display of Huawei P9

Well Huawei P9 comes with Full HD 5.2 inch IPS display and has 2 .5D Glass. According to the specs, the display is capable of 500 nits of brightness and has 96% color saturation. The display is bright and works well indoor and outdoor. The screen is vivid and saturated with great contracts. It also has great viewing angles. The bezels are thin at just 1.7 mm thick and that gives the display almost edge to edge fell.  You can even change the color temperature of the display in the setting menu-to little warmer or little colder depending on your taste. You can choose to default setting which works perfectly if you don’t want to switch to another mode. Overall, the P9 has the great display and it will give you good experience whatever you do on-screen.

Processor of Huawei P9

The P9 uses the HiSilicon Kirin 955 chipset that makes the phones work extremely fast and make the devices way powerful too. So, this basically means Kirin 955 is the most powerful processor that huawei has ever built. It has Quad-core 2.5 GHz Cortex-A72 & quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU. In term of performance, the P9 is an absolute dream, it’s fast, fluent, the animation is smooth and the multitasking is bridge or you can say it works perfectly fine.  Now, the Mali-T880 is a top grade GPU from ARM though this is not the fastest GPU in the market but also 3D game experience is perfect for the majority of the users.

 Fingerprint Reader of Huawei P9

The fingerprint reader is on back of the phone. You can wake and unlock the phone just by putting your finger on the fingerprint reader. You can also use fingerprint reader to trigger the shutter while taking photograph as well as swipe left to right when viewing photo in the gallery. It just works perfectly fine.

Software and New features of Huawei P9

The Huawei P9 comes with Android v6.0 (Marshmallow) but it has the Emotion UI layer on top that means you are not going to get the stock Android experience and for some people that could be a problem. For those who are unfamiliar to Emotion UI, the look and feel is quite different to Stock Android. You get colorful square icon, desktop folder and very much redesign setting page, besides the UI change  there are lots of additional features you don’t get with stock Android including motion gesture, floating dock , voice wake-up and a one-handed mode. There is also Knuckle Gesture that allows you to take a screen shot by double tapping on the screen with your knuckle or drawing the letter to open an app. Both type of knuckle gesture can be disabled, if you find them miss fire.

With the built-in voice wake up you can talk to your phone when it is nearby. It’s usage is limited to locating your device or placing a call and it does actually work quite well. A similar feature is quick calling which allows you to initiate call when the screen is turned off. However, you need to press and hold the volume button down until you hear the tone and then you can speak the name of the contact. Since, Huawei P9 uses on-screen navigation keys, you can choose and place the keys as per you wish according to the given option.

Camera of Huawei P9

When it comes to the camera, of course the big thing is the partnership with Leica . The P9 comes with dual camera of 12 MP at the back with two sensors, one is the color sensor and other is black and white sensor, this meant to capture more detail. The idea behind dual sensor is all about light sensitivity and the promise is monochrome sensor can give you 200 percent more sensitivity than a regular sensor. There are also three different focus mode on the board- laser focus, depth focus and contrast focus as well as dedicated depth measurement chip. This means both lenses can focus individually and P9 improves ISP will automatically choose the best result. Unfortunately neither the lens has OIS (Optical Image stabilization), something that really should have been included.

There are lots of camera mode available like full manual mode, shallow depth of field mode, night-time mode, time-lapse, slow motion and watermark. Huawei has also added a light painting mode that let you capture the light from moving object like car, star etc. The front facing camera is 8MP with some of the features like standard beautification mode and perfect selfie mode.

Battery of Huawei P9

The Huawei P9 has 3000 mAh battery which is a plus point when you consider how sleek the device and it has also included a battery monitor which gives you a high level control over the battery related features. For example you can say a power plan which allows you to adjust the CPU according to the usage and so save battery when possible. One interesting feature that you have not seen is the ability to change the screen resolution from full HD to 720p according to the battery manager app this will help you save power. There is also a power saving mode which will disable everything expect call and messages. It also brings out simplified monochrome interface when running low on battery, this can add several hours to the usage.
