How To Fix Android Alarm Not Working?

Alarms are an essential part of everyone’s life. Whether it be for waking up to work out, to go to job, to go to school, or anything in between, you rely on alarms for a number of important things. So, when the alarm on your phone doesn’t work like it’s supposed to, it is natural to get frustrated. The problem arises when your Android alarm stops doing one thing it is supposed to do. Users are reporting this exact problem they’re facing with their Android alarm clock. Although it is difficult to pinpoint what is causing this problem, we do have a couple of potential solutions for you to work with. Here’s how to fix Android alarm not working.

Fix Android Alarm Not Working

Just as smartphone has replaced a number of devices such as mp3 players, torch, calculator, it has also replaced alarm clocks. You no longer need to have an alarm clock on your nightstand. All you need is a smartphone. So, when it stops working, you start to panic. But that is about to end. Follow the methods below to fix Android alarm not working as it’s supposed to.

Restart Device

If you face any issue with your Android, always restart it. Most of the issues go away with a simple restart. It is actually recommended that you routinely restart your device to help function better. It also increases the device’s health. So go ahead and long-press your Android’s power button and tap on restart.

Check Volume

I hate to state the obvious but to cover all grounds I have to do it. Some people may not know this but Android has separate volume control for media volume, call volume, and alarm volume. There is a possibility that you might have accidentally lower your device’s alarm volume. To check if that’s the case:

  • Press any Volume button.
  • Tap on the 3 dots to reveal full volume control.
  • Pull the bar with a bell icon all the way to the top.

Check Do Not Disturb Mode

Although DnD doesn’t affect the system alarm clock, it will affect 3rd party alarm clock that you got from the Google Play Store. So, skip this step if you’re using the clock you got with your Android. However, if you downloaded one from the Play Store or other unknown sources, then this might be the issue. DnD might also affect clocks that come with Android skins like OneUI, MiUI, etc. You might have accidentally pressed the DnD icon and activated it. Or you might not have known that DnD affects 3rd party alarm clock apps.

Go to Settings > Sound > Do Not Disturb and turn it off.

Disable Flip to Shhh (other phones might have another similar feature)

If you have a Google Pixel phone then this might be the issue. If by any chance you’ve enabled Flip to Shhh features on your Google Pixel, then that might be the one causing this problem with the alarm clock. Google Pixel has this feature where it prevents any notifications when the phone is placed face down. If you have a habit of placing your phone in such a manner, then you want to disable the Flip to Shhh feature.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap on System.
  • Select Gestures.
  • Disable Flip to Shhh.

Clear Cache and Reset App Preferences

If none of the methods work, then clearing cache and resetting app preferences might just do the trick. To do so,

  • Open Settings.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Tap on Manage Apps and search for Clock.
  • Select Clear Cache.
  • Go back to Manage Apps and Tap on the 3-dot menu icon on the top right corner.
  • Tap on Reset App Preferences.

This is it. One of the methods should work for you. If it doesn’t, you might want to contact Google support, or your OEM’s support, or go to the nearest service center.
