How to create lite version app of any web service on Android

Most of the users don’t use the official apps for the websites and services, such as Facebook. This is because some of these apps take a lot of resources with their heavy background services and storage usage. This results in battery drainage and lags in entry level devices. As the result, they use the lite version apps or browse through a web browser. However, not all of these web services and sites have lite version of their apps or even a normal app. This article is written especially for the users who use web browser to use their favorite website or service. You can easily create a lite version app of your favorite web services on your Android device. Here’s how to create lite version app of any web service on Android.

To achieve this, we are going to use a one of a kind app known as Hermit. Hermit lets you create an app of any web service and lets you access it via a shortcut icon on the home screen. The app you create will be a standalone app and it can be customized heavily.

You may be thinking how Hermit is any different from let’s say Chrome. Chrome allows you to place shortcut links of any websites on your home screen but Hermit is only app that allows you to fully customize it. There are no browser that can customize shortcuts like Hermit does.

How to create Lite version app of any web service on Android.

Step 1: Install Hermit app. It is available for free on the Google Play Store. The free version only allow you to create 2 apps. You will need to buy the premium version to access all the features. Step 2: Open the app and take a tour of all the features Hermit has to offers. We will start by creating a lite version of Google Plus. Open the side bar and tap on Create.

Step 3: You will see a list of apps that Hermit already supports. You can also add a URL or your choice if the service you are using is not on the list. Tap on the Google Plus icon and the link will open.

Step 4: Rename the lite app and then hit Create.

Step 5: The lite app will be create on your home screen and can be launched by tapping on it.

Step 6: We will now customize it. After opening the app, tap on the Gear icon on the top right corner. Tap on Customize.

Step 7: You can play with the options and select what you need. You can block ads, removing frame, change theme and much more. You also change the icon of the app.

Step 8: After the customizations are done, we will now integrate notifications with the lite app using the Notification RSS feeds of the service. Most of the web services provide RS feeds, copy and paste it on the Integration tab. You can test the feed before saving.

The user experience will not be great as you will be using the mobile version of the web services. The customizations can improve it to some extent. However, the performance is great and the app will only take 10 MB to 15 MB of RAM and 4 MB of storage with 2 apps.
