Game of Thrones is such an awesome series that nowadays everyone is watching and talking about it, be it at the coffee table, the bar or on the internet. The latest episode “The Rains of Castamere (ROC)” also known as “the Red wedding” which aired last Sunday on HBO was so overwhelming that it has stirred the bee hive of Game of Thrones fans who are now lashing out their anger, frustration and sadness on social media which has certainly saved a lot of TV sets. According to HBO, between last Sunday and Monday there were over 700,000 mentions of ROC on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and forum and blogs. This makes ROC, HBO’s most social episode till date taking the crown from previous record holders -season three premiere of Games of Thrones and season five premier of True Blood. Mashwork social analytics said that volume of social activity increased 44% in ROC compared to the season’s premiere.
During the last few minutes of the episode, series of events unfold which fans in social media have described as “shocking”, “unexpected”, “unforgettable”, “sad”, “effin crazy”, “gruesome” and many even said they were left “emotionless” for the rest of the night after the show. It is great that George R. R. Martin, with his story, has managed to invoke so many emotions in people and we all know how important that is in marketing. With top notch acting, events that will throw you out of your seats accompanied by the haunting tunes of ROC, it is certain that viewers will never forget this episode. In marketing perspective, the episode is a brand in itself and has all the necessary ingredients to go viral, thereby attracting more fans to the Game of Thrones series.
Adding more to the Game of Thrones buzz, the title song of the episode is already getting thousands of views and hundreds of crazy reactions to the episode are appearing on Youtube.
